Currently 18 Years in Practice. Being human is mostly hard and life can be cruel. We see it time and time again. Bad things happen to good people, and we suffer. Each and every one of us at some point in our lives, finds ourselves lost and stuck. We can get depressed, anxious, angry, defensive and frightened. We can often avoid the things that bring us pain and as time goes on that list gets longer and longer and our life can feel smaller and smaller. Reaching out for help can be the hardest first step, but it's also the bravest and will prove to be one of the best decisions you will make for yourself.

I work best with clients who are struggling with bereavement, trauma, suicidal thoughts or life transitions.
Life can be very dark. During or after difficult experiences, we can emerge from them feeling changed somehow. As if things just aren't the same. I work particularly well with people who feel hopeless, lost or at rock bottom. I offer a space where even the most horrendous experiences can be explored openly and without judgement. I will sit with deep darkness and emotional pain without rushing to solutions or offering false reassurance. Sometimes, before we can move forward, we need somewhere safe and honest to stop and make sense of where we are, in a world where not everything can be squared.

I have experience of supporting individuals who have experienced complex trauma, mental health challenges, entrenched personality traits that have contributed to turbulent relationships, and difficulties regulating emotions.
Attending therapy is a very personal and courageous thing to consider and by reading this, you have taken the first step. In my experience, the connection with your therapist is important for you to feel able to develop trust and safety in the space so that you feel more able to share your difficult life experiences, which you might not have voiced to anyone before.

You may be experiencing challenges including loss, anxiety, or life transitions, or are looking to work through experiences of trauma, stress, depression, and more.
Creativity can help us discover parts of ourselves and express them through metaphor, which helps us explore our emotions without having to know why. You do not need to be "good at art" - the focus is on the process (tearing, making, scribbling, binding), not the product. I will work with you to put you at ease - no experience necessary.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
