You may be feeling stuck in patterns you understand intellectually but can’t seem to shift. Perhaps anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or a deep sense of disconnection keeps looping no matter how much insight you gain. You might be high-functioning on the outside, yet internally exhausted, overwhelmed, or quietly carrying experiences that your nervous system never fully processed. Does this feel familiar? If you’ve talked it through, analysed it to death, and still find your body reacting like the threat never ended, you’re not broken — your nervous system is doing exactly what it learned to do.

I am currently on maternity leave but will reopen profile on my return. I have 15 years experience working with young people whom present with various anxiety disorders, depressive episodes, OCD and trauma. I was once “a young cool practitioner”. I must admit I am no longer the “young cool one” but instead “middle aged, experienced practitioner/ therapist”.

Growing up can sometimes feel as if it needs to be navigated rather than enjoyed, both for the child/young person and for the parents.
I can support and facilitate communication in relationship therapy to allow a space to explore difficult topics. For children and young people I can offer a space to explore their emotions, perhaps using creativity. Others prefer to learn techniques, such as ways to calm a racing brain or to distract from difficult thoughts.

I also specialize in parenting problems.
Couples therapy is usually for ninety minute appointments. There are often two aspects to the therapy: Coaching in the form of skills/tools you can utilize (relationships are complicated, and we get no training in how to be successful in them), and secondly, healing work on any developmental wounds or traumas which may be impacting your current situation.

My AutPlay Therapy certification, Filial Therapy training and experience of Therapeutic Parenting can further support this work.
You may see that your child is struggling and feel desperate to help them. They may appear anxious or overwhelmed, behave differently, find relationships tricky or unpredictable, or simply not seem themselves. Children do not always have the language to explain what is happening, and their behaviour may show what they cannot yet put into words. Through Play Therapy, I provide a trusting, accepting relationship where they can express themselves in ways that feel safe for them. I have worked with schools and supported adopted and neurodivergent children and their families, helping children to feel seen, heard and understood.

Parenting Counsellors
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
