Do you feel emotionally drained, lost, or disconnected from yourself? Or maybe everything is going right in your life, but you feel something is missing? I can help you understand what’s really going on beneath the surface and find a way forward. With experience working in addiction and recovery, I have developed a deeper understanding of how coping behaviours, emotional pain, and past experiences can shape the way we think, feel, and relate to others. Whether or not addiction is part of your story, these patterns can show up in many different ways, and together we can begin to make sense of them.

There are times in our lives when our ability to cope alone is significantly diminished. You may be there right now. Perhaps negative experiences from the past, or significant life changing experiences have altered the way you think, feel, or behave. You want to move forward, but just can't seem to break the cycle of shame, guilt and fear? You may be unsure who you can trust? My personal experience and faith in God's transforming power fuels my passion to come alongside the hurting, wounded, confused, lonely and voiceless as I witness broken lives being restored.

I also offer couples counselling, particularly when relationships are impacted by stress.
Is life feeling tough at the moment? Is everyday feeling the same . .. are you just getting up and pushing through? Do you feel you are not good enough, and compare yourself to others? Are you worried about world events and how they may impact you? We can work on your overwhelm, figure out what is beneath it all and why you are feeling this way. We can work on how you would like your life to look and what is stopping it from feeling ok now. We'll work totally in the present or we can look back at your past to see if patterns are emerging and triggering you. I can help you unpick all of this at your own pace and in confidence.

Couples Counselling Counsellors
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
