Whether you are struggling with emotions, relationships or physiological symptoms of anxiety or depression I can offer a safe space to explore these. You may be struggling to understand why things are so difficult, and may be very critical of yourself, thinking you should be coping better. You might have experienced a traumatic event, or always felt that you don't quite fit in, blaming yourself. You might be in a couple or a family unit struggling with arguments or disconnection from each other. You might just want to re-think your values and life goals to shift your future focus to something more rewarding.

I have also received training in compassion-focused therapy (CFT) and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT).
As a CBT and EMDR therapist, I can support individuals who are looking for support and guidance in making active changes to their day-to-day life. You may be struggling with feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or perhaps restricted in life due to a chronic illness. You may have goals about making life feel more meaningful, despite its challenges. You could be aware of past experiences that are affecting the way you feel and respond to situations, and you are willing to spend time, in a safe environment, working through the difficult thoughts and feelings to reach a place where it doesn't affect you in this way anymore.

I often draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, emotion regulation, body-based approaches and trauma-focused rescripting.
Therapy is a partnership — a space to explore life’s challenges, openly and honestly. Therapy is centred on you and its where important changes can begin. We’ll bring curiosity to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours — and how certain patterns may be keeping you stuck. From there, we’ll work towards lasting changes with more clarity and confidence.

I specialise in physical health conditions (e.g. oncology, palliative care, pain, digestive diseases), alongside issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship/interpersonal difficulties, loss, adjustment, trauma, life crisis, body image and identity. I'm also interested in issues of diversity and cultural conflict. I work in a collaborative and integrative way to help understand your difficulties and to move towards the change you seek.

I draw on models such as CBT, ACT and Existential approaches, amongst others, where I not only help my clients find ways to cope with perpetuating distressing symptoms.
As a clinical psychotherapist, I have over 10 year’s experience of working with patients and clients with many different struggles and difficulties. Trained as an integrative therapist, I work in a unique way that is based on your own individual needs. I believe that everyone is different and not every modality suits everyone. I know only too well how difficult life can be, yet uniquely different, we all suffer pain and loss in many similar ways. I feel truly humbled to work in this field and would be honoured to support you. You are not alone.

I deliver high quality treatments including CBT (I'm BABCP accredited), ACT for performance optimisation (e.g. thriving in competitive sports), EMDR and Mindfulness Based Therapies.
I am a senior clinical psychologist with over 15 years experience in the NHS and I currently work in private practice. On a day-to-day basis I help people manage stressful life events and deal with many psychological problems. For example, anxiety, PTSD, low mood, performance difficulties and dealing with pressure. I can help you develop a rich understanding of your problems and how to respond flexibly to them. I believe how we think affects what we feel, which in turn affects our actions. Sometimes we need to reflect on how we keep falling into the same traps to move forward in our life. It’s okay to get help to get out of a rut.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
