You may be feeling tired, no energy, a lack of interest in day to day life. Are you emotional for no reason..life just feels overwhelming? You might like to feel less anxiety , have more self confidence and increased assertiveness to reset your emotional balance and have better relationships with the people around you. The confidence to set boundaries, to feel less stressed, and to be more present and connected. To be more you.....have you lost the real you? Are you considering counselling as a way of talking about and exploring those feelings to help you see them from a different view point? It may help, and does help many people.

When you are struggling with your health, it can feel like no one understands. It's frightening to think about how much your life has changed and whether or not things can be the same again. It can even feel like you are grieving for your former self like you would the loss of a loved one. You might be struggling to connect with the things and people that matter to you most in life and no matter what you try, like life is not heading in the direction you want it to.

I offer therapeutic counselling to children, young people and adults. I have worked with children and young people within education for just over 20 years. I also educated myself further in Forest School and taught outdoors. Throughout this time is where I learned a great deal about the benefits of nature and the natural effects it has on health and well-being. I trained as a person centred therapist because I am passionate about empowering people to learn more about themselves and strive for positive change. I also experienced my own difficulties and trauma during childhood

Sometimes life will present us with challenges and difficulties that we struggle to make sense of, or that make us feel stuck and unable to move forward positively. Not knowing what to do or how to be when we have these experiences can create a diverse set of uncomfortable feelings. Its different for everyone...whilst one person may feel overwhelmed or isolated, another may struggle with anger, anxiety or depression. Perhaps this sounds like you?

Together, we will get to the root cause of your anxiety and burn out, and create a customised plan to help you feel more in control of your life, free from all the worries and avoidance that have been holding you back.
Are your worries and tendency to over think getting in the way of being fully present in life? Is your need to over achieve and be perfect causing you to procrastinate on taking that next step in your career? Are you plagued with constant self doubt? Perhaps these problems are making it difficult for you to sleep well, relax and enjoy your down time, or even causing you to panic and experience physical symptoms that make you feel out of control. You may even feel like you are failing at juggling all the different things you need to do, and feel guilty for taking time for yourself. If this sounds like you, you are not alone!

I help clients with issues such as suicide ideation, stress, low self-esteem, panic disorder, anxiety , illness, baby loss, relationships, work issues feeling sad and phobias.
It can seem like the hardest thing to do to access counselling, but it can be life changing if you take that first step. You may not be entirely clear on what you want but just have a feeling that things don't feel right and you have decided that you want to understand what, why and how to refocus and live the life you feel is best for you. Or perhaps you are very aware of a struggle with difficulties, which may already be formally diagnosed by another professional, and you want to regain some control instead of feeling that these issues take over. I can support people in achieving their goals wherever they are in their journey.

If you're experiencing panic , anxiety , anger, a sense of worthlessness, I can provide the space for you to safely explore the many thoughts and feelings which may be keeping you stuck.
I offer Supervision for qualified Counsellors/Therapists as well as Counselling and Psychotherapy. In Counselling/Therapy, if you are facing distressing or traumatic experiences, sitting with a highly qualified and attuned therapist can help you explore your thoughts and feelings to make sense of what's going on. As a degree qualified and experienced psychotherapist, I am able to work with you on a short or longer term basis. I know that, sometimes, talking can be difficult; our unconscious thoughts get in the way of change. I can offer creative methods or materials to help raise awareness and express your feelings and thoughts.

Anxiety Counsellors

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
