Are you feeling stuck, unheard, anxious-then I hope we can work together. My work is principally founded in exploring how our early experiences, and relationships influence how we feel and relate today including how culture, identity, race, gender, and family dynamics shape emotional life causing individuals to be silenced, shamed and estranged. I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor offering a reflective and culturally sensitive space for supporting all adults who want to understand themselves more deeply. I have worked in a range of clinical settings including The Priory Hospital, NHS Talking Therapies and Age UK.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. Reaching the point where you want support, and finding someone you trust, takes courage. You may be looking for a therapist who can offer understanding while also being honest & direct. Someone who will take you seriously and work alongside you. I work with individuals & couples when connection feels strained or has broken down, and when you feel unseen, unheard, or disconnected. I pay close attention to relational patterns, responsibility, and the impact of wider social & cultural influences, including ideas about gender and power. I support reflection and change at a pace that feels manageable.

Having worked for many years as a community pharmacist, I’ve seen how often mental health needs are overlooked—especially when cultural or religious backgrounds aren’t fully understood or respected. These experiences led me to train as a counsellor, so I could offer more supportive, inclusive care to those facing emotional challenges.

I have always been fascinated by the complexity of human beings, their darkness and their lights. I consider the therapeutic room not only as a space for self-reflection and exploration of what feels difficult to process on your own, but also a place to speak the unspeakable. Therapy can provide an opportunity to challenge behaviours that may appear unchangeable or automatic. As a practitioner I am interested in the integration of cultural and gender studies and have experience working with depression, isolation, sexual identity, existential difficulties, relational dilemmas and bereavement.

In private practice, I work with individual adults on an open-ended or time-limited basis, offering a safe, non-judgmental space to think together about what kind of life you want and what may be getting in the way. My path to psychotherapy was preceded by a creative career, which left me with a lasting interest in how people make meaning and a particular sensitivity to the gap between what we say and what we mean.

Whenever you're not willing to feel an emotion, your choices and behaviours stem from your avoidance of that emotion. Your resistance runs your life & is directly contrary to your overall best interest. Similarly, traumas are incidents unable to be completed. The energies of these traumas are stored in our body until they can be released. I assist you to unlock these traumas by reactivating the emotional responses to these trapped emotions, which unlocks the synapses in the brain, allowing new positive emotional learning to replace the old trauma. Your energy field then becomes less dense, & a new sense of freedom takes hold.

My approach is psychoanalytic in essence and is adapted depending on the age of the child/young person.
I am a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with years of NHS / CAMHS experience. I work with young people (0-25yo) experiencing emotional difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, depression, attention/concentration issues, and low self-esteem. Young children may express their distress through separation anxiety, feeding/sleep issues, or outbursts. I work with parents who often feel overwhelmed and seek support to understand what is happening and how to best respond. I also see couples as part of an advanced training at the Tavistock Relationships, a charity providing a range of fees to make therapy accessible to all.

I have completed a four-year training in attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy at The Bowlby Centre.
I believe that psychotherapy can get to the root of distress. Through a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship, we can come to understand ourselves better and live with more fulfilment, freedom and self-acceptance. Having been in therapy myself, I know first-hand that the process and effects can be profound. Part of this means looking at how experiences and relationships from earlier in your life are affecting things now. And part of this means learning to be with your present-day experience in a different way – becoming more mindful and curious about your emotions, your mind and your body.

Psychoanalytic thinking underpins my approach to therapy.
Personality, relationships, anxiety, depression, and emotional trauma are areas of expertise. I am also experienced in working with people who engage in therapy to think about themselves more deeply, to understand and relate to themselves better; to make sense of and find meaning in their lives. This itself often forms the basis of valuable therapeutic aims.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
