You may be capable, dependable and used to keeping things going, yet find that criticism, disagreement or the fear of disappointing someone affects you more than others realise. You might go quiet, agree to keep the peace, avoid a necessary conversation or become defensive or angry after holding too much in. These patterns can intensify during work pressure, burnout, relationship difficulties, bereavement or major life changes. I offer face-to-face counselling in Shenfield, near Brentwood, for adults who want to understand what happens in these moments and find more choice in how they respond.

Hi, I’m Keeley. If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re not feeling your best. You may be tired of coping and carrying confusing feelings around inside whilst others see someone who has it all together. They see a capable, responsible person who simply gets on with things. Yet underneath, you may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or unsure why life feels harder than it looks. You may think you don’t really need therapy, that you’re making a fuss about nothing, or that these feelings will pass. But perhaps they haven’t for some time. Together we can understand the emotional patterns shaping how you relate, cope, and carry responsibility.

My name’s Dasharn - I’m an integrative therapist, meaning I combine different psychotherapeutic theories and techniques to fit each client's unique needs. My work is especially informed by psychodynamic thinking, helping you uncover those underlying patterns so you can understand and change them, rather than keep repeating them. Some clients come with a clear issue, while others feel something isn’t right but struggle to put it into words. I offer a calm and reflective space to explore this at your own pace, helping you gain clarity and move forward in a way that feels meaningful and lasting.

You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood or anger, or feel stuck in patterns you understand intellectually but still find difficult to change. Shame, self-doubt or a harsh inner voice can make it harder to know what you really feel or need. I work actively and collaboratively, helping you make sense of what is happening rather than simply sitting back and listening. I work with adults of all genders and identities, with a particular interest in men, relationships, identity and masculinity.

I originally trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the 1980's and then worked as an actor for many years: over the last 22+ years my life started to take a different turn and I now enjoy working as a counsellor with individual clients. As an Integrative Transpersonal Counsellor I draw together different approaches whilst offering therapy with soul - looking beyond the immediate problem, or symptom to work in ways that honour each client's deeper journey. For me therapy has meant a chance to revisit old stories and beliefs whilst gaining fresh insights and understandings.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
