Are you experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings such as anxiety, depression, anger and/or sadness? Do you perhaps find it hard to talk about what is going on for you with people around you including your loved ones? You may be noticing that the way you are coping is not helping you to feel better in the long term. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn how to manage difficult things that are going on for them, and to move forward to a place where they can feel positive and their mind is at ease. I can work with you collaboratively, and help you to achieve your goals.

Finding a therapist starts with you and your needs. You may arrive with a sense of overwhelm, loss or anxiety, perhaps desiring change but without knowing how or believing you can. We can work together to explore how you feel, think and behave, and find a way to bring you back to your authentic self. I am able to work with adults and older teenagers (16+), as well as those training to be Psychotherapists themselves, and have a broad experience of short and long term work, presenting issues and ages, diagnoses and personalities.

I offer a nonjudgemental, calming and empathic space for anyone in need of support. We live in an increasingly difficult and stressful world and it can feel overwhelming at times. I hope to provide a safe space for an individual to be themselves and feel able to explore what it is that distresses them and what they need to feel better.

Have you started to feel that something's not right? Maybe you've noticed 'stuff' spilling out & you can't hide or push it to the back of your mind like you've done before. Perhaps you've made a decision to get 'it' sorted out or get some help, because as hard as you've tried, you just can't do it on your own. There may be one thing or many; you may know exactly what you want help with, or just know there's loads to unravel & it's become too confusing (or even too scary) to deal with. Whether there is a sense of guilt, anger, shame or feelings of not being good enough; However you are, just come. You will always be welcomed.

Psychological Therapy - Remote/In Person. My name is Dr. Catherine Bavister, I'm a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC. If you are struggling with anxiety, feeling low, if your relationships are suffering, then it might be useful to give psychological therapy a go. Sometimes people need a safe space with someone who is outside the family/friendship circle to make sense of their thoughts and feelings, and to identify patterns and triggers. I draw on various therapies to personalise strategies for you to move forward with making change. I am also very ASD mindful.

Spaces available either online, or face to face at Shepshed, Leics and Nottingham City Centre - Hi, I'm Sarah. I have worked for the last 15 years with people who have experienced trauma and stress. I support you to accept your past so that you can move forward. For some this might mean dealing with the past, for others, it might be planning and working through small steps to achieve what they want in life. We distract ourselves with work or become defensive maybe even quick to anger. I offer a supportive genuine environment that allows you to be vulnerable to heal the deep emotional and spiritual wounds which you have kept hidden.

Hello and a very warm welcome. I'm Marc (he/him). I’ve been seeing people as a counsellor/psychotherapist since 2003, starting at the Nottingham Priory as a drug and addictions therapist, and later as a volunteer at the Nottingham Counselling Service. I’ve seen a wide variety of people, working with a broad range of issues, from weight to worry, from isolation and loneliness, to feeling overwhelmed and swamped by others. I've worked many times now with people who have self identified as on the autism scale or ND or ADHD.

Do you feel like something needs to change but it’s hard know where to start? Do you find yourself getting caught up in unhelpful patterns within your family, relationships or work? Or maybe you're feeling numb, empty or anxious and can't seem to shake this off? When you’re feeling stuck in a pattern or weighed down by distressing feelings it can be really hard to find a way forward and find the motivation to change things. You are the expert on your own situation, but sometimes it can really help to talk things through to help you understand yourself more, make changes and live your life more fully.

Psychological ill health comes in many forms all of which are scary in their own way. The prospect of trying to address symptoms can be even scarier. Choosing a therapist with whom it is possible to feel comfortable is crucial in finding a workable solution. Therapy is a journey which may require rest stops, u-turns, refuelling and maintenance. What is needed may not be clear at first but sometimes simply stopping and taking a breather is a positive start. All I can say now is that together we can take the time it takes to demystify what is being experienced. This can be done in a safe and secure space where you will be heard.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
