If you are struggling with anxiety, feeling low, if your relationships are suffering, then it might be useful to give psychological therapy a go. Sometimes people need a safe space with someone who is outside the family/friendship circle to make sense of their thoughts and feelings, and to identify patterns and triggers. I draw on various therapies to personalise strategies for you to move forward with making change. I am also very ASD mindful.

I understand how difficult it can be to decide to seek help. This is why I offer a no cost first session to see if you can feel comfortable with me. I am very experienced and approachable and I have helped many people get through difficult times. Anxiety can feel overwhelming. It can lead to physical symptoms of panic, nervous tension, sweating and breathlessness and it can be difficult to think clearly. "What-if" thinking takes over and negativity sets in. I can help you break out of this cycle of doubt by working on restoring your coping skills.

Hello and a very warm welcome. I'm Marc (he/him). I’ve been seeing people as a counsellor/psychotherapist since 2003, starting at the Nottingham Priory as a drug and addictions therapist, and later as a volunteer at the Nottingham Counselling Service. I’ve seen a wide variety of people, working with a broad range of issues, from weight to worry, from isolation and loneliness, to feeling overwhelmed and swamped by others. I've worked many times now with people who have self identified as on the autism scale or ND or ADHD.

Psychological ill health comes in many forms all of which are scary in their own way. The prospect of trying to address symptoms can be even scarier. Choosing a therapist with whom it is possible to feel comfortable is crucial in finding a workable solution. Therapy is a journey which may require rest stops, u-turns, refuelling and maintenance. What is needed may not be clear at first but sometimes simply stopping and taking a breather is a positive start. All I can say now is that together we can take the time it takes to demystify what is being experienced. This can be done in a safe and secure space where you will be heard.

It’s scary admitting to yourself that you need help; and that you’re struggling with whatever is causing you to feel unhappy or distressed. Due to stigma; people feel that they can only access therapy when they are at breaking point; when in fact you can access counselling whenever you need to. My background is in working with abuse survivors; adults and children; and those who have experienced trauma. As a result I work with depression, low self esteem, shame, loneliness, hopelessness, grief & loss, anger, self harm and suicidal feelings as well as a broad range of other factors and experiences clients bring to their sessions.

I offer face to face counselling for individuals in my bespoke therapy room. You may need to find a way to talk about a problem you have been struggling with for years or you may be in the midst of a current difficulty that is impacting on your life. Either way you will find me a good listener, empathic and able to help you work your way through whatever difficulties you are facing. You may have very specific goals you want to address or you may just be curious as to whether or not counselling / psychotherapy can help you. Together we can explore your issues and work in a person-centred way to help you.

Hi, I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I want to hear your concerns and support you to work towards the things that are most important in your life. I feel that therapy should happen in a friendly, nurturing space in which you feel safe and comfortable to bring anything you want to talk about and work on. I usually suggest exercises and other resources to complete in between sessions in order to keep the work progressing.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
