I primarily prefer using EMDR, often with ACT, and tend to focus on traumatic and difficult experiences that might be the root of the current difficulties.
Thinking about trying to access therapeutic support for yourself, or a family member, can be a difficult and sometimes confusing process, with there being many types of therapists around, all offering slightly different experiences, often being trained in different models and approaches. It can also be a minefield trying to work out whether the person is appropriately qualified, and registered with the appropriate professional bodies. I am therefore happy to offer a short phone call, or video call, to answer some of these questions, and to see whether you feel I am the right fit for you, or your family member.

Are you experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings such as anxiety, depression, anger and/or sadness? Do you perhaps find it hard to talk about what is going on for you with people around you including your loved ones? You may be noticing that the way you are coping is not helping you to feel better in the long term. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn how to manage difficult things that are going on for them, and to move forward to a place where they can feel positive and their mind is at ease. I can work with you collaboratively, and help you to achieve your goals.

Hi I’m Catherine, Clinical Psychologist. I work with individuals struggling with their mood, anxiety, self-esteem, coping or in dealing with the past. I aim to offer a friendly, non-judgemental space, where we can get stuck in to understanding how you tick, to work through the problems you bring. You might have a clear idea of what you want, but I otherwise draw on various therapy approaches to personalise strategies so you can do what works for you, to make the changes you need. I work with anxiety disorders (inc. anxiety, panic, phobia, stress), PTSD, depression, ADHD and ASD.

Life can be challenging. It can be difficult opening up to someone about the worst that's happened to us, about the parts of ourselves we struggle with. For some dealing with trauma can impact how we treat others, having negative impacts on relationships & life. I’ve worked for over 25 years with those who’ve experienced complex trauma: who’ve lived/worked in conflict zones; been abused by family; struggle to emotionally regulate; have been abusive & with relationship breakdown. As a couple it’s important to feel the therapist you choose is able to work with you around your relationship.

Life is tough. We all experience loss and difficulties along the way but sometimes those things can feel unmanageable or overwhelming. Maybe the situation is just too big, or maybe it's an accumulation of things that have built up over time that mean you feel you need some therapeutic support. As an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, trained in Person-Centred, CBT and Attachment Theory with a particular specialism in working with traumatic loss and bereavement I can provide an empathic space for you to work through your current issues and to explore how your past may be informing your responses in the here and now.

I offer trauma based therapies, EMDR, DBT, CFT, CBT, ACT and attachment informed approach.
Life is full of events, relationships, stresses and strains and all these impact on us in many different ways. It can affect all the important things to us such as school, work, relationships and our own perception of ourselves. This can be tiring and overwhelming. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way and I believe strongly that a person can benefit from having a space to discuss their feelings and develop ideas and strategies to improve their emotional wellbeing.

I mainly use acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT) in my practice, an evolution of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that keeps your values at the centre of the work, to ensure that we are moving towards what matters to you.
Hi, I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I want to hear your concerns and support you to work towards the things that matter most in your life. I feel that therapy should happen in a friendly, nurturing space in which you feel safe and comfortable to bring anything you want to talk about and work on. I usually suggest exercises and other resources to complete in between sessions in order to keep the work progressing. As an Accredited EMDR Therapist as well as a clinical psychologist, I am able to use the therapy approach most appropriate for your concerns.

I use acceptance and commitment techniques to help you align with what matters most.
You’re successful, capable, and driven — but lately, it feels like you’re running on empty. You’re doing everything you can to stay on top of work, family, and life, yet no matter how organised you are, there’s always more to do. The pressure to keep performing is constant, and you’re starting to wonder how long you can keep it up.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) is an action focussed therapy that links with CBT.
We all get stuck, lost and don't know which path to take at times. We often then get into patterns to help us manage, we stop doing things that make us anxious, we drink or eat more for example, but these behaviours don't always connect with the person we want to be or the life we want to live. I want to help you to get back to the things that matter to you. I offer 1:1 online and The Space to Be outdoor therapy groups to children, young people and adults. Nature is a powerful ally in therapy and having fun and creating provides opportunities to learn skills that can positively impact on your day to day life now and future growth.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
