I support neurodiverse and neurotypical adults facing overwhelm, anxiety, depression, trauma, and the emotional impact of long-term conditions.
Do you often feel overwhelmed, on edge, or exhausted from holding things together? You may cope outwardly while feeling anxious, low, or unsettled inside. This can relate to past trauma, feeling different as a neurodivergent person, or adjusting to the impact of a long-term health condition. I specialise in trauma and chronic overwhelm, helping you understand your patterns, regulate your nervous system, and feel steadier and more in control. My work is neurodiversity-informed and offers structured, attuned support.

Hi, I'm Fiona. Welcome to my profile. I am an experienced, and qualified counsellor who loves her job. I understand how difficult it is to approach counselling, and know how daunting, scary and anxiety provoking it can be to choose the "right counsellor for you". Perhaps your daily life leaves you confused enough, without having to make yet another decision. Perhaps your goal is to understand yourself more fully, or learn ways of accepting past experiences, and finding a more relaxed, and happier way to move forward. If you are looking for someone patient, warm and non judgemental, I'd really like to be that person to help you.

Deciding to attend therapy is a difficult decision. It is important that you find a therapist with whom you can feel comfortable, I aim to provide you with that experience. I believe there is no position or age from which positive change cannot be made and will support you in the process. Alternatively, if you have a goal that you wish to achieve, either personally or professionally, it is vital you find someone who can bring energy, enthusiasm and pragmatism to your sessions. I also have experience in the corporate space and provide seminars on a number of issues and coaching for groups.

The reality is that we all encounter things in our lives which cause us suffering and pain. Many of us will reach a point where we feel a sense of impass or something which challenges our sense of who we are, particularly as we develop outside of the families we grew up in. The human brain is able to develop ingenious ways of coping, but our coping mechanisms can end up causing us more distress than they fix. We then end up in a pattern of beliefs and behaviours which negatively affect us and leave us feeling hopeless and stuck. I belive that it's possible for everyone to lead a fulfilling life. We sometimes just need a little help.

There are many reasons why people choose to come to therapy.  For some, it can be a sense of discomfort, an internal struggle, or perhaps an external trigger has pushed you towards seeking support. Therapy can be an empowering process, supporting you to reconnect with yourself, to notice and take care of your needs, bringing you self awareness, healing, and a deeper sense of security. My main training and theoretical background is Transactional Analysis & Relational Integrative Psychotherapy. I also draw on Trauma-Informed Nervous System Regulation techniques in my work to support deeper healing.

I’m curious about people, the things we feel and the connections we make, on our own, with others, in communities, and with our environments. How we get stuck sometimes, how we learn to survive and how we thrive and grow. I’m interested in the mind-body connection, processes of transformation, wild therapy and exploring queer family building. I have experience with, and am passionate about working with GSRD (Gender sexuality and relationally diverse) folks and the LGBTIQA+ community. I believe in creating therapy spaces for queer and trans people where they are met in a place of understanding and support.

I am experienced at supporting people with a range of presenting issues including anxiety, depression and mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, as well as attachment and relationship/interpersonal difficulties. I have extensive clinical experience within secondary care settings and my practice is enriched by ongoing professional development, including specialist training in relationships.

You might feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why things feel so difficult. Perhaps you’re carrying the impact of trauma or painful life experiences, struggling in relationships, or questioning parts of your identity. At times it may feel like you’ve lost connection with yourself or the direction of your life. You may want to better understand your patterns, make sense of your experiences, and feel more grounded and self-compassionate. Therapy can offer a space to reflect, process what you’ve been through, and begin moving forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Anxiety can quietly take over your life, and relationships often feel the strain first. You might feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or exhausted from holding everything together. Low mood or stress may be building, while your connection with your partner or family feels tense, distant, or fragile. For many people living through change or migration, these pressures can feel even heavier. When anxiety, depression, and relationship stress pile up, it can be hard to know where to begin—or even how to ask for help. You may be looking for relief, clarity, and a space where you don’t have to carry it all alone.

Are you feeling anxious, stressed, down, unmotivated? I understand that it can be difficult to know what to do next. I have experience of helping people make sense of these feelings, and find a path to improve their lives. Whether you are feeling depressed, anxious, or struggling with traumatic events, it can sometimes feel like nobody understands, and there is no clear way forward. This can impact your life, and those you care about. I have worked with many people who feel like this, and there is a way forward. I offer in-person session in Oxford, short bus ride from the centre, and there is plenty of parking. Or sessions online.

FAQ - About Adult Counselling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioural therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.

How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists in the UK hold various credentials depending on their training and regional requirements. Counsellors and Psychotherapists registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) receive the designation MBACP and their qualifications and practice are overseen by BACP. Many Psychologists registered with the British Psychological Society receive the title of Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), signifying that they have completed postgraduate training and supervised practice. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.

How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
