‘We all need someone to talk to some of the time’ and across the multi-dimensional layers of personality and global connectedness, to be human means we will be faced with situations and events during our lifetime that we believe a hundred percent, we will have little or no chance of sorting out or finding solutions to. The truism is there are always solutions, some more easily achievable and likeable, others less so. Nonetheless these too are solutions and place ALL at the doorway of all possibility. The wisdom then is to stand in the doorway to commence the healing transformations of finding answers and pathways towards resolution.

Coming to counselling can be a scary (and brave) step to take! It involves opening up to a complete stranger about things you may have kept inside for many years. The people I work with come with a variety of issues. Some may want to speak about a specific issue such as relationship or work difficulties but others come with a feeling that they have been a bit stuck for a while and are not sure why.

I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC. My training involved psychotherapy placements in the NHS and the charity sector which focussed upon different ways of understanding and approaching psychological distress. Even though you may be experiencing distressing symptoms labeled as anxiety, depression, complex trauma or post-traumatic stress, you yourself are not disordered. I'm more interested in understanding how these symptoms communicate what happened to you. After all, we wouldn't blame a flower for not growing, we would look at whether the environment was nurturing.

You may be struggling with a clearly defined issue or general 'stuckness in life'. Maybe you need to understand what it is. It may be something you've struggled for long or something new intruding your life. Possibly something you are keeping from others or maybe someone has suggested you seek help for it. It might affect only you or your relationship with loved ones. Maybe you are seeking help with a couple issue you've tried to work on with your partner. You may feel hopeless, having tried everything to solve it. In any case, therapy can be used to make sense of the problem and agree a strategy to move forward towards your goals.

Right now you may feel desperate, lost, empty, stressed, anxious or fed up. Whatever difficulty has prompted you to seek Counselling does not define who are you are and the journey you want to take in life. Together we will explore your feelings of being stuck, alone or in darkness as you strengthen your own resources to create greater wellbeing, resilience and satisfaction. No person is the same or brings identical experiences but frequent issues I work with include depression, anxiety, loss & bereavement, trauma, suicidal thoughts, work or school stress and relationship tensions. I work with clients aged 13+ and with Couples.

Sometimes life can be challenging and we don’t know where to turn. Maybe you and your loved ones are fighting a lot or perhaps not communicating at all? Do you always think the worst about a situation or yourself? Are you comfortable in your own skin? You may want to become more confident or assertive in expressing yourself, saying what you really think without fear. Maybe past events or traumas are preventing you from moving forward and living the happy life that you want. No matter what your situation is, counselling can help create a safe space for you to feel free and help you through even the most difficult of times.

Are you facing difficulties in life? Our experiences can make us pessimistic, assume the worst, be constantly worried about the past repeating itself and anxious about the future. Sometimes it can feel there’s no way out. It doesn’t have to be this way, you can change the way you think, in turn changing your outcomes, interactions, behaviours, and experiences. Well done for taking the first step to go to therapy, the next step is choosing the right therapist. I can help you explore your thoughts, where they stem from, work with you to build resiliency, healthy habits and help you achieve your therapy goals.

The fact that we are alive, proves we are resilient and creative enough in our attempts to face life’s challenges. At times our experience may become overwhelming or too painful to adapt to, or the adaptation may come with great consequences. The long-term effects of this may lead to anxiety, low mood or lack of confidence. When stress keeps us in its grip for too long, some health problems or physical pain / psychosomatic symptoms may develop as a consequence. You may be feeling that you cannot live fully or express yourself, as if there was a block or a barrier between you and life, you and others, or you and your core self.

Myclient (s) would be couples or individuals who struggle in their relationships. Their issues would include communication, loneliness, depression, loss, struggling to find the couple after children, empty nest syndrome and many more. Their goals would be to understand the recurrent patterns that are putting strain on the relationship and resolve the underlying issues. Counselling and psychotherapy may involve exploring the past to the extent that it influences the present.

The choice to start psychotherapy may come for a variety of reasons. Becoming aware of repeating patterns of behaviour, struggling in personal and professional relationships, coming to terms with a particular traumatic event, or with feelings of depression, lack of purpose and meaning. Ultimately, there will be a unique reason for each person. Whilst my work takes into account the influence of the past onto the present, it also places as much attention to the future and to the fact that in the present psychological suffering there may be the potential for a meaningful new direction.

The ideal client is of course anyone ready to make real change in their lives, but I work with many seeking to reach that point. Clients see me asking “Why do I feel like this?” Once we have worked through why you do, the next goal is to see how you can change your mindset, rewrite the script so that your attitude to certain situations no longer causes you distress.

We all face hardships and difficulties at points in our lives and it’s not easy owning that we can’t always face this alone, but seeking therapy is a brave step and may be the first needed to initiate change. I believe that therapy can be a life-changing experience to enhance your self-awareness and self-understanding, leading to personal growth and development. Through a collaborative therapeutic experience we may explore past behaviours and relationships and how these affect you today, or explore philosophically the meaning you're giving to your current life and how you may wish to develop this.

I have 19 years experience working with clients who have complex mental health needs and a forensic past, and who are highly sensitive and experience their emotions more intensely than the average person. I am experienced in supporting clients who present with a wide range of interpersonal and relationship difficulties, emotion regulation disorders such as BPD, childhood abuse, bereavement and loss, eating disorders, depression and anxiety and suicidal and self-harming behaviours. I offer clients a thorough assessment of their life history as well as identifying current needs and goals, and a clear, well-defined treatment package.
