Over the last 14 years I have helped many people achieve a sense of well being, integration and wholeness in their personal & professional life. I can help you achieve the same. Life does not need to be a struggle. The process begins with you taking that scary first step to have an initial session or even just to call me to have a chat. In this first session or chat you can experience me and how I work and if we are a good fit, we can take it from there. I look forward to talking to you.

I support children, young people, parents and carers, families, schools and communities through an integrated approach using psychodynamic psychotherapy and child, community and educational psychology. I love working with individuals, groups and organisations. You may want to focus on exploring and healing past life experiences, understanding present ones and planning for the future. We can weave between the three organically as I work therapeutically, psychologically and life coaching style in response to empowering your voice, bolstering your self esteem and self care, highlighting your strengths and supporting your arising needs.

Hello, I’m Melissa and I am one of the clinical psychologists here at Willow Psychology. Taking the first step to reach out for support can feel hard, as can knowing which therapist or approach is the best fit for you. So I am really glad that you have found your way to this page. I aim to create a relationship of safety, non-judgement and openness in therapy. During the assessment session we can think together about what you would like to be different in your life and reconnect with your values and what is meaningful to you.

Therapy gives you the space to work out or simply remember what you want, what options you have to get it - and what gets in the way. We would work together to identify what you need and what changes are required to get closer to this. I believe clear advice can be helpful, drawing on experience and on psychological theory and research, but however we work it must make sense to you and be your choice. Above all, I see us as an alliance of equals with different insights and strengths. This collaboration is at the heart of successful therapy.

I’m an experienced psychotherapist trained to the highest level in my profession with a doctorate in psychotherapy and counselling psychology. I believe that psychotherapy can create a non-shaming, safe space for you to explore the unsaid, to give voices to thoughts and feelings previously unknown. Psychotherapy can be challenging but growthful work that could increase awareness of yourself, create new meanings, and live life more in the present. Research shows that the most important factor in the success of therapy is client motivation - you have to really want to change for it to happen, and I am here to support that journey.

Everyone’s story is unique and every journey is different. There are many reasons why you may be seeking therapy – whether that is a moment of difficulty or ongoing challenges that have prevented you from moving forward the way you would like. I am experienced in working with people struggling with various difficulties such as anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, or traumatic experiences. I also value opportunities to help people identify and reconnect with the values, skills, and strengths they already hold.

I am passionate about empowering clients to develop or strengthen their own sense of agency in the world, so that they feel in control. In order to do this, I work collaboratively with clients rather than acting as an expert. I walk alongside my clients in their therapeutic journey, rather than taking the lead and instructing which can at times feel disempowering. Whilst I use my knowledge and expertise to help clients consider new ways of viewing the world and offer guidance on ways they may consider changing their behaviours to better suit their needs, I do not act as an "expert" as I believe each person knows themselves best.

If work makes you feel permanently exhausted, if it all seems pointless, and maybe you can't get stuff done the way you used to, you may be on the path to burnout. Other signs include blaming everyone else, deprioritising friends and family, and the use of unhelpful coping mechanisms such as drink or drugs. Burnout can take you from persistent stress to anxiety and, if not interrupted, depression. Are you burning out?

How can I find a therapist in London?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
