All human beings go through challenging times. Sometimes it might be a small thing you want to discuss. Or, you might be experiencing anxiety or depression or other emotions that may feel disturbing or even unbearable. Possibly you might feel things are changing for you, and would like to share this with someone.

We will utilise verbal retelling, somatic exploration, chair work, writing, creativity and we will utilise our relationship to give us insight into your others.
I think we sometimes come to therapy not knowing exactly what it is that's causing us pain. Maybe we feel fear, anger, confusion or just a sense of detachment from who we feel we used to be or could be; sometimes it is only symptoms (such as addictions, eating disorders, OCD) which we can identify. You might be experiencing family or work issues or, maybe, you’re in grief (from a death/relationship breakdown or any significant change in your life). Whatever your reason for wanting therapy I know that, ultimately, we want to feel better than we do right now.

For example, as well as talking, our work together may include creative visualisation, gestalt experimentation and somatic (body) work.
Perhaps you feel as though you have lost yourself somewhere, that you cannot feel the ground beneath your feet. Perhaps you have suffered trauma, that you have never felt able to explore. Perhaps you are mourning - longing for a beloved being, or for some hope or dream. Or perhaps you simply want to know yourself better – who you are, why you are, how you are – and who you might become.

Hello, I’m a qualified Integrative Counselling Therapist, and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer a safe and supportive space where you can explore your current and past life experiences, understand yourself on a deeper level, and discover new ways of coping and growing.
My approach is warm, empathic, and person-centred. I believe therapy works best when you feel really heard, accepted, and understood without judgement. Together, we can explore feelings and patterns that may have been hidden, painful, or difficult to express, and gently make sense of how they affect you.

I am an integrative psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing practitioner.
Integrative psychotherapy means that I choose from a range of therapeutic techniques to find the best fit treatment for you. Somatic experiencing is a specific trauma therapy in which people are supported and coached in getting to know their nervous systems and helping change nervous system patterns that are no longer useful or have become problematic.

Therapy can be a life changing experience, a time for growth, exploration and personal development. You may be coming in the hope to resolve some past or current experiences or you may feel overwhelmed, confused, lost, stuck. You might be experiencing difficult symptoms and unhelpful behaviours that inhibit you from living your life to the full. Perhaps you struggle in your environment to fully thrive. I welcome people of any gender identity, sexuality or with any relationship style. I deeply respect difference and actively practice anti-racism. Together we can work on whatever might be the right approach for you.

In practice, this means we gently explore your past and present experiences, relationships, and your ways of coping, with an openness to what may be emerging for you.
I aim to support you in making sense of your experience in a way that feels meaningful, and to gently bring awareness to what may be limiting or holding you back from expressing your true self.

I have 20 years experience of offering a supportive, confidential place in which to make some sense of symptoms such as anxiety, stress, depression, or a sense of general dissatisfaction. I see my role as therapist as being someone who can support you in learning more about yourself, your thinking and behaviours, your relationships, and your unconscious motivations, supporting you to create meaning, and to make the changes that you feel you need.

I am very experienced at working with clients who want to break loose of limiting beliefs, feelings and behaviours. Typically these issues leave a client feeling they are not living the life they want to. People can easily get stuck in cycles of stress which disrupts relationships , family and work life. There can also be a pattern of low self-esteem, loss of confidence and anxiety. Clients I see may have adopted coping strategies that bring additional difficulties such as over eating, porn use and other addictive behaviours.

I specialize in working with couples. Whether you’re navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, or feeling disconnected, counselling offers a space for both of you to explore challenges and create meaningful change together. Relationships are complex, shaped by shared history, individual experiences, and the way we respond to one another. Sometimes, uncovering patterns from the past can lead to powerful breakthroughs in the present.
I also work with individuals, helping to address a wide range of issues. The act of naming and exploring a challenge in a safe, non-judgmental space can bring relief and open the door to lasting growth.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
