Hi, thanks for stopping on my profile. It can be tricky to know which therapist to contact. The best therapist is the one who you feel most comfortable talking to. This is your life, your journey. Whatever it is that made you open this website, hurts. Talk to someone who empathises and can help you to improve how you feel about yourself.

Are you tired of battling against chronic pain or illness every day? Maybe you feel that your life is being controlled by it. This could have led you to feel down or anxious or it may have affected your
sleep
. It can be hard for other people to understand your illness or pain, resulting in feeling isolated from friends and family. Maybe pain has stopped you from continuing with a hobby or keeping on top of the housework. In this position you may be wondering how you can live a valued and fulfilling life.

I also have a specialist interest in
sleep
, as this can often be a problem for people facing challenges with their mental health.
Struggling with mental health is surprisingly common, yet we can often feel isolated or stuck with our problems. I support people to get a clearer perspective of why they are feeling the way they are and what steps can be taken to manage their difficulties. We can then work together to help move towards a more fulfilling and purposeful life. As a fully accredited Clinical Psychologist, I aim to do this by offering a compassionate and supportive space to talk, whilst also pulling upon the most recent research and therapeutic methods for making effective change.

As a psychotherapist, I have gained experience helping people from all over the world on issues related to anxiety, stress, low mood, low self esteem, relationships, attachment, parenting, pregnancy, anger and
sleep
problems.
Seeking help or therapy is not always an easy decision. Most of the times this decision implies undertaking a process of reflection and the awareness that something feels off - or is simply nor alright - and that pain or emotional discomfort are involved. Psychotherapy can be the answer as it represents a tool to better deal with the important moment in which we come to terms with who we are and we allow ourselves to change. It can help you nurturing your resources and overcoming the barriers that are blocking you from reaching what you would like.

Working in several NHS Trusts, a specialist bereavement service and private practice has meant helping people overcome a range of difficulties, from low mood and self esteem, to stress,
insomnia
, worry and social anxiety, panic, phobias and OCD, or coping with traumatic events and loss, adjusting to health conditions or parenthood.
None of us are immune to the experience life throws at us and sometimes we can develop difficulties with depression, anxiety or both. This often affects how we think, feel and act, falling into negative cycles that can maintain problems. I'm an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and personal tutor (PG Dip CBT, Institute of Psychiatry) and can help you identify and break these down so you can move forward positively in your life. Where helpful, I integrate approaches which sit well with CBT, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy, to tailor a course of therapy which will support you best.

I can support individuals and families with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, stress, bereavement, conflict, fears, low mood,
sleep
problems, relationship or behavioural difficulties, among others.
Hello, I'm a clinical psychologist specialising in working with adults, children, young people and their families. I have 13+ years experience working in the NHS across a number of services including with adults, looked-after children and for a young people's drug and alcohol service. I also have experience working with parents over the perinatal period, with mothers and babies, and parents and toddlers. Experience has taught me that the most important factor in successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client; therefore, I strive to provide a warm, accepting, engaging space for young people and parents alike.

Psychotherapy and counselling can help you to gently gain a new perspective on your relationships, without judgement, in a confidential space. Although relational patterns may have served you well in the past, perhaps you feel they are not helpful to you any longer. You may feel that things are just not working out, without ever really understanding why. Perhaps you keep choosing particular people as friends or partners that you know are not healthy but can't resist anyway. Perhaps this makes you feel anxious, depressed or you can't
sleep
at night and well meaning advice from friends of family doesn't seem to help.

I work with people who may be experiencing difficulty with a range of issues, including psychosis spectrum experiences (e.g. voices, paranoia or unusual ideas), anxiety (e.g. social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, worry/generalised anxiety, health anxiety, panic), trauma,
sleep
, perfectionism and low self-esteem. Therapy usually begins with understanding how these difficulties may have developed, before working on what may be maintaining them, supporting you to make changes in line with your goals.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
