I work with a range of clients who are exploring questions of meaning and identity and seeking ways to live a more fulfilling life. Many of the clients who come to me are feeling overwhelmed and are looking to make changes in their lives, but do not know where to start and often have never had enough emotional support or space in which to explore their process and the recurring patterns in their life. Together, we work to understand issues such as anxiety, depression, a lack of motivation, authenticity, loss, or low self-esteem and look for a path to healing and growth.

My aim is to provide you with a person-centred evidence-based therapy in a manner that is compassionate and healing. I'm a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and an academic. I have over a decade of experience working in psychology in the NHS, private practice, academia and the NGO sector. We will start by having an initial consultation, which is a chance for you to share with me in depth what you are struggling with. We will then decide together whether a shorter term therapy that addresses a specific difficulty, or a longer term therapy that takes a more holistic and exploratory approach is most suitable for your needs and goals.

Whatever your difficulties; relationship problems, depression, anxiety, low self-confidence or low self esteem , loss and bereavement, identity confusion, feelings of powerlessness, and anger.
There are times in everyone's life when things can feel overwhelming. At others, we can find ourselves repeating unhelpful or destructive patterns in our behaviour or relationships. At these difficult, and sometimes very distressing times, therapy can, quite literally, be a life-saver. For others, therapy can be an exciting and challenging space for personal development, growth and exploration. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years. I work in both the NHS and as a consultant in Private Practice. I am also a senior tutor at the Minster Centre a pre-eminent training organisation for Psychotherapists.

Are you tired of pretending you’re OK? Are you your own harshest critic? So used to putting others first that it’s hard to hold on to your own self-worth? Or you may be finding that getting out of bed is a struggle, you don't want to go to work or show up in your life. Add in experiences of sexism, micro-aggressions, abuse, and ageism, and your confidence can be knocked. It’s not much fun feeling anxious, depressed or stressed all the time. Comparing yourself to others and not feeling good enough can affect your mood and your relationships with yourself and with others. These are all things that therapy can help you work through.

Hello and Welcome. My interest in psychotherapy has developed over years of working in conflict environments and as an Executive Coach. So often, clients brought issues to coaching that needed deeper exploration: anxiety, depression, relationship problems, loss, bereavement, addiction to food, alcohol or other substances to relieve stress, low self esteem , and self-limiting beliefs. Counselling and psychotherapy provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can work through issues that are of concern to you. The therapeutic process can help you to make changes in your life, develop self awareness and improve well-being.

Having therapy can be a difficult decision, especially when you feel low, self-critical, lonely, anxious, not worthy of having this type of care for your own self. The power to feel better and release this pain is within you, and I can help you access it. Together we can learn the best way for you to reach and keep a good self-esteem and mental health. I offer a confidential space in which you can feel understood, cared for, free to talk about anything that you require. I also offer walking therapy sessions, in peaceful green areas in London. For some clients this has proven deeply beneficial, if interested please enquire.

Through counselling I provide a space just for you where you can gain insight, experience change, and realise your full potential. You may be experiencing difficulties, such as a relationship breakdown, struggling with depression or anxiety, or feeling shame or low self-esteem. Perhaps you sense something hasn’t felt right for a while, but you are unable to pin point why. Counselling gives you time each week to slow down and can help you recognise your own feelings and needs, and develop deeper connections and relationships. Counselling allows you the opportunity and space to get in touch with who you are and what you want in life.

We all deserve to have a life that we feel secure in and a future that we can look forward to. But in reality there are times when this simply isn't the case. And so we seek therapy. It might be for help with overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression. Or a little nagging voice at the back of the mind that says that now is the right time to talk to someone.  Or something quite clear and sudden has happened. Therapy is somewhere you can come to talk, confidentially, about whatever it is that is affecting you.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
