Myself and the Associates I work with draw on different therapeutic modalities to help you develop insight into your experiences, these may include: Psychodynamic , attachment theory, black feminist concepts, compassion-focussed therapy (CFT), sensorimotor psychotherapy, EMDR, CBT, family, systemic and narrative approaches.
Hello, I am Dr Rima Lamba. I'm a feminist counselling psychologist with an interest in the unique experiences of women from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I work closely with women who have struggled with self esteem & identity, relationship issues, difficulties in motherhood, life transitions, attachment and early trauma, and transgenerational trauma. I am particularly interested in the structural power differences that impact people, so I work closely on issues to do with patriarchy, race, culture and more. I also work with a team of therapists who can support clients, including adult families.

I offer open-ended psychodynamic psychotherapy, starting with weekly sessions, which are 50 minutes in duration.
Finding a psychotherapist can be daunting, and very confusing, with a lot of terminology and names that might feel complicated and mystifying. My view is that therapy doesn't need to be so confusing and shrouded in secrecy and strange names. To put it simply, I offer you the chance to talk about whatever might be troubling you in total confidence at the same time, on the same day, in the same place, every week. That consistency, alongside the relationship we will develop, is all part of the healing process that therapy can provide.

Most of my work draws on CBT and psychodynamic models.
I offer therapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults. There are times in life when things can feel overwhelming. and sometimes having someone to talk to, outside of your usual network of family, and friends, can make a huge difference to your wellbeing. I believe that you are the expert in you, and so I will work alongside you and/or your family to help you make the changes you need to feel in control. I have particular experience in working with self-harm and suicidal ideation; eating disorders; depression; anxiety; and trauma.

I work flexibly in my approach to meet your individual needs, with a psychodynamic theoretical underpinning.
Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time or seeking a new way of looking at things, your reason for coming to therapy is unique to you. I work collaboratively with you to discover meaning of current distress or patterns of behaviour which you may be finding difficult, through its association with past relationships and experiences. My goal is to help you feel like a more confident, authentic version of yourself who will be better equipped to deal with difficult feelings in the future.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy in a non-judgmental, highly confidential, safe, accepting and affirmative environment where you will be fully supported in exploring your challenges at your own pace, getting to the sources of your concerns, doubts, anxieties and insecurities and allowing you to develop a reparative awareness of those patterns that were not available to you before. I am a fully qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor.
The fact that you're here suggests a curiosity and a need to find someone to listen and to help you think about your current situation. It takes courage to reach out and connect with someone unknown to talk about feelings and emotions. Therapy offers a safe space to do so where you are met with warmth and empathy. I offer a non-judgemental confidential space where we can work together to make things better by making sense of your experiences.

As an integrative therapist I have experience in working with various forms of therapy including psychodynamic , humanistic and cognitive behavioural amongst others.
I am a qualified BACP registered counsellor and clinical supervisor with extensive experience working with people from all walks of life , ages and cultures. My work focusses on enabling people to find more confidence , joy and clarity and to help them create the life they want to live - whatever that looks like for them. We lived in a highly stressful time and it can be very easy to become anxious and depressed which without help can lead to feelings of helplessness and despair. Therapy offers a safe space to explore those difficult feelings, and often bringing those dark thoughts into the light can bring some relief.

I have a background in both psychodynamic and Schema therapy which helps you to understand how you can change yourself and move on and reach your goals.
I work face-to-face in Hammersmith but due to Covid-19 I am mainly helping people online by Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp and telephone. I focus much of my work with clients who have reached an impasse in their lives, feel stuck and like they are making the same relationship or work choices again and again. Perhaps they have a general dissatisfaction in life that they cannot seem to see a way past. I seek to change and understand why you keep repeating negative cycles of behaviour. I have experience working with clients; particularly in relationship difficulties, bereavement, jealousy, anger, anxiety and negative thoughts.

My main approach is psychodynamic , which is based on the psychoanalytic tradition and understands that unconscious processes and past experiences influence our present.
Therapy can help us to understand ourselves, identifying areas of struggle to find a way to change and live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes there is a traumatic incident in our past that we start remembering or we start experiencing general anxiety, depression or relationship issues. Often we have an idea about what we need to do but are unable to move on and feel stuck. I believe that talking about things is helpful. It is a way of dealing with our difficulties and a step towards a different path.

I am here to help you go through the journey of knowing and understanding yourself in a non-judgmental and compassionate space.

I also practice the Psychodynamic school of thought, looking at the effect of our unconscious, revisiting past experiences and how that might shape our thoughts and behaviours today.
I provide a safe, confidential and empathic space to explore what is going on for you, and help you cope in the here and now. I work in a way that promotes a balanced and neutral environment helping you to shut out the noise of the everyday world. Therapy can provide the opportunity to explore your decision making, your patterns of behaviour, how you relate to the world and help you to identify your own needs. I will support you through this journey. Together we will explore your thought process and how you got there, providing you with greater self awareness and meaning

I am an integrative Psychotherapist who uses various methods and theories from a range of modalities to tailor my style to the individual's needs. I feel that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy and that each client must be worked with, in an individual manner. I am influenced by Person-Centred and Psychodynamic concepts in my work, as I like to get to the root cause of what is pertinent for the client at present, whilst always remembering that ‘the client is an expert in their own lives’.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I incorporate person-centred, psychodynamic and other approaches to create personalised treatment plans.
Does it seem as though your life will never get better no matter how much you try to change it? Does constant worrying make it hard for you to complete daily tasks? Is your work performance suffering? Are your relationships with co-workers strained? Is your family in turmoil and you’re feeling powerless to change things? Anxiety, depression, conflict with others, workplace issues and life events can stop us from feeling good about ourselves and achieving our goals. If you’re feeling stuck, you’re not alone. I can help you navigate confusing thoughts, feelings and behaviours to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your needs.

As such, standard wellbeing advice or behavioural support offered might not be sufficient and psychodynamic work could be a good alternative.
You may be unsure why you're feeling worried, depressed or struggling at work or with relationships. Psychotherapy can help you to understand where your difficulties might be coming from leading to a less stress filled life. My first training was as a medical doctor. I have over ten years' experience working in mental and physical health in the NHS, forensic services, the charity sector and higher education and have trained in intercultural psychotherapy at The Tavistock NHS Trust. Fees are £90 per session, £70 for low income. Please get in touch about availability of low fee slots if that is unaffordable.

I have a psychodynamic outlook and draw on attachment theories to guide my thinking.
There are many reasons why you would chose to seek therapy. You maybe experiencing stress or anxiety, feeling overwhelmed or that you just can't cope at this moment in time. You maybe experiencing difficulties with intimate relationships or your family. Could you be suffering a bereavement, or loss, divorce or separation. There maybe issues you have been struggling for a long time, traumatic experiences, low self esteem, your identity or your sexuality. Or feeling like you 'don't quite fit in'. You could be stuck in certain relationship patterns that you want to change.

I like to work collaboratively with my clients, to help them achieve their individual therapeutic goals. I recognise that every client is different and 'no one size fits all' approach can apply in therapy as everyone has their own unique experiences therefore, I see the importance in tailoring the approach to fit the client. I draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities including: person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT. Over the years I have worked with a variety of presentations such as Depression, Low Mood, Anxiety, Relationships, Interpersonal Difficulties, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Trauma.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
