As a health psychologist, I specialise in incorporating the mind-body connection in my therapeutic practice, using CBT,
mindfulness
and EMDR to provide pragmatic and nurturing support.
Many of my clients are experiencing health issues (such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic pelvic pain or interstitial cystitis) that are disrupting their life and making it harder to cope with demands and find enjoyment. Others come to me because of trauma, chronic stress, overwhelm & loss of identity. Generally, clients come to me for help adjusting to changes, whether health-related, life changes or otherwise. Some clients have clear goals, which we map out together with a clear focal point for working on and others come to explore difficulties and get clarity on potential goals.

CBT incorporates many techniques, including how to change thinking patterns and manage intense emotions, eliminating negative self-talk,
mindfulness
, and breaking unhelpful behavioural patterns.
I am a High Intensity CBT Therapsit, currently working towards BABCP accreditation. CBT focuses on a problem-solving approach to help people learn how to react in a different, more positive way to the situations that can lead to problems. By learning new strategies, you can also learn how to change your behaviour and reactions, and how to think about things in a more positive way, thereby improving your life across a range of aspects. Depending on the person in question, and the problems that they have, CBT can be conducted together with a wide range of techniques

My clinical approach integrates talking therapies, DBT,
mindfulness
, trauma work, psychodrama, and creativity, using a range of creative tools, including action, visualisation, imagery, and art.
I work pluralistically from a contemporary biopsychosocial framework that incorporates all aspects of self and I believe that you have many of the answers you are seeking within yourself. My objective is to build a safe and holding space for a trusting relationship where you can explore and share your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and problems/difficulties. Clients often seek therapy because of symptoms affecting their everyday life. However, they are often unaware of the root cause of their self-sabotaging behaviours, relationship issues, and emotional numbness. I also provide a more focused work as a single-session therapy (SST)

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
