Certain experiences or learned patterns can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from ourselves and others. We often yearn for change but may not know where to start. These difficulties can show up in our intimate relationships or sex lives, affecting our confidence, intimacy and sense of belonging. Though sometimes invisible, such struggles profoundly affect our well-being and lead to feelings of shame, isolation, or hopelessness. I believe that change is possible, and that therapy can be a meaningful path to new ways of feeling, connecting and living a fulfilling life.

You might be thinking of having therapy. But what is it? Can it help me? If you are going through a challenging time, or perhaps reached a transitional phase in your life, undergoing a change in your relationship or looking to make a change in your life, perhaps long forgotten things are making an appearance and you'd like to understand why, or simply looking for growth and change, looking for a roadmap to your life - then therapy can help.

We believe that everyone is unique and therefore is dealt with in a way that best caters to his or her individual needs. We work with you by exploring your world to see how you engage with your life and the people around you. Along the journey, we will explore your past, look at your present and see how you perceive the future. We will help you become more aware of your values, beliefs and limitations and help you connect and improve your relationship with yourself. This process may be challenging, yet extremely rewarding as we access the changes you want to make towards living the life that you want to live.

I specialize in the emotional world of men navigating masculinity, fatherhood, and partnerships while carrying high levels of responsibility. If you're reading this, you're likely capable and outwardly functioning well. But internally something feels off: disconnection, repeating patterns, distance in your close relationships. You want deeper connection, renewed intimacy and a grounded way of relating that's real, not performed, without losing your strength, identity or edge. You may be navigating painful patterns you can't break, balancing leadership demands with emotional presence at home or rebuilding after years of drift.

With couples, I might look at attachment issues, family systems, imago, developmental approaches and explore blocks to intimacy.
There are many reasons why you might be seeking counselling. Your issues might have been triggered by recent events or could stretch far back to past abuse or narcissistic control. There might be anxiety, low self-esteem, feelings of isolation, exclusion, deep loneliness, overwhelm or numbness. I can help with these issues. I have also had specialist training in trauma (PTSD & dissociation) and can offer emotional freedom technique for regulation and processing. I also work with the specific challenges that come with dyslexia, autism (ASD) and ADHD.

Integrating Imago, Gottman, systemic, attachment, and psychodynamic models, I help partners understand the unique story and roles shaping their relationship.
Many of the couples and partners I work with feel like they’ve lost their way together. Arguments may repeat in familiar cycles, or silence has replaced communication. Some arrive in crisis — after betrayal or distance has grown — while others simply want to feel closer again but aren’t sure how. My clients often describe feeling unheard, unseen, or caught in patterns they can’t shift, no matter how hard they try. Beneath the surface conflict, there’s usually a longing to reconnect, to understand each other better, and to feel emotionally safe again. Some couples hope to rebuild and move forward together; others are unsure whether

Imago Counsellors

How does Imago therapy work?

Imago relationship therapy is a form of couples counseling meant to help partners address conflict, communication problems, and related issues. Imago sessions typically involve couples sitting facing each other and participating in guided conversations. Therapy will also involve exercises such as re-imagining one’s partner as a wounded child; re-romanticising a relationship through appreciation, surprises, and even gift-giving and restructuring frustrations by transforming complaints into requests. The ultimate goal is to re-envision the relationship as a source of safety and happiness.

What is the Imago method?

A core technique of Imago therapy is the Imago dialogue, in which partners learn to avoid hurtful statements and establish ways to interact based on each having equal space and power. In the dialogue, partners take turns as the “sender,” who shares their thoughts, and the “receiver.” The receiver is asked to “mirror,” or paraphrase, what their partner has said, without response or rebuttal, and then validate their statements, acknowledging understanding even if they do not personally agree with it. Finally, the receiver displays empathy by stating what they imagine the other is feeling, and showing appreciation for it.

How long does Imago therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for Imago therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core techniques of Imago coaching, some couples quickly make progress, but most should expect sessions to extend for months, encompassing at least 12 to 20 sessions, along with extensive “homework” from their therapist.

Does Imago therapy work?

There is limited empirical evidence to support the benefits of Imago therapy, but some smaller studies suggest that it does help couples, at least in the short-term. A 2017 study found that marital satisfaction increased significantly after couples completed 12 sessions of Imago therapy, and remained higher for some time after that, but did not always result in “complete recovery.” Other studies found greater empathy and fewer feelings of relationship burnout in couples after therapy. Some research suggests that Imago therapy can aid individuals as well as couples; people with ADHD in particular may benefit from the development of communication, self-control, and listening skills that form the basis of the technique.
