Co-Parenting Counseling in London
My therapeutic approach is largely transpersonal integrative, which means I am able to integrate other approaches into my work, including humanistic, CBT, solution-focused and expressive/art therapy. How I work is entirely dependent on the needs of the client I am working with. Transpersonal therapy is a holistic healing intervention that evolved from the humanistic work of American psychologist Abraham Maslow in the 1960s. I am a registered member of the UKCP, and I work in accordance with their ethical guidelines. I offer both face-to-face sessions as well as online therapy which is accessible to all regardless of location.

I believe that we all have a deep need to be understood; the feeling that another human being gets it. For some of us, that feeling is all too rare. Without it, our lives can become deeply unfulfilling, painful and hard, and we can feel let down by others, hurt and alone. Sometimes we don't even understand for ourselves why things are so difficult. Perhaps we've become trapped by events of the past, or can’t imagine a new future because the present is so intolerable. Faced with this, we can turn to ways of being that, although they helped initially perhaps, over time just made things worse.

People come to counselling/therapy for a range of issues including relationships, stress, fear or anxiety, confidence & self-esteem, procrastination, unhelpful habits or addictions & a whole range of other issues. In the beginning my role is to get to know you, understand who you are, listen why you have come, why you are the way you are, what you might need. I usually ask a lot of questions to find out about you now and what brings you to counselling, a little about your past, to find out how counselling can help alongside considering not only any underlying issues but also how you may want to live your life to your full potential.

I am Relate trained specialising in Relationship and Sex Therapy. In order to keep our relationships healthy we need to attend to them to ensure they remain respectful, trusting, sexual and happy. Because of the busyness of day to day life, we can easily disconnect from our partners without realising it leading to a lack of communication, conflict, affairs, and dissatisfaction. When married, or when children are involved, these problems become even more complex. It might even be that since the country's lockdown, you are now realising there are issues in your relationship. Now could be a good time to resolve these.

The fact that we are alive, proves we are resilient and creative enough in our attempts to face life’s challenges. At times our experience may become overwhelming or too painful to adapt to, or the adaptation may come with great consequences. The long-term effects of this may lead to anxiety, low mood or lack of confidence. When stress keeps us in its grip for too long, some health problems or physical pain / psychosomatic symptoms may develop as a consequence. You may be feeling that you cannot live fully or express yourself, as if there was a block or a barrier between you and life, you and others, or you and your core self.

I offer a warm and supportive space to support your growth and healing process. "Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand That this too, was a gift." Mary Oliver . Mental and emotional suffering are part of life, the pain at times can be too much to bear on our own, which impacts our ability to enjoy life. Counselling can be a safe space to be held, seen and find the gifts that otherwise could be lost in the crisis and challenges we face. Suffering is inevitable but it does not need to be endless. I offer free teachings on self-care through my Instagram and YouTube accounts.

FAQ - About Co-Parenting Counselling
What happens in co-parenting counselling?
Co-parenting usually refers to the shared responsibility of raising a child after parents separate or divorce. Even when both parents want what is best for their child, co-parenting can bring stress, conflict, and major adjustment for the whole family. In co-parenting counselling, a therapist helps parents work through these challenges. Common topics in co-parenting counselling include communication difficulties, parenting differences, and their child’s well-being. In many cases, co-parents attend counselling sessions together, allowing the counsellor to help them practice communication and problem-solving in “real-time”. Depending on the situation, one or both parents may also meet individually with the therapist before or during the counselling process.
How do I know if co-parenting counselling is right for our situation?
In most cases, co-parenting counselling is voluntarily sought by parents; however, it may also be court-ordered in certain family law cases. When counselling is not required, there is no single sign that a family “needs” it. Some parents begin counselling early to help everyone adjust to new roles, routines, and expectations before any more significant conflict emerges. Counselling may be especially helpful, however, when parents are dealing with ongoing communication problems, repeated disagreements about parenting decisions, or difficulty helping a child adjust between homes. If the same issues keep coming up despite your efforts to resolve them, co-parenting counselling can offer a more structured and supportive way to move forward.
Do both parents have to agree to attend co-parenting counselling?
If co-parenting counselling is court-ordered, it may be required that both parents attend counselling for an allotted amount of time. However, for those voluntarily seeking co-parenting counselling, it is up to you and your counsellor to decide who will attend sessions. Many therapists encourage both parents to attend sessions, but if one parent is particularly reluctant, unavailable, or if there are safety concerns, one parent may choose to attend counselling on their own. Individual support can still help a parent improve their own communication skills, set boundaries, and respond to co-parenting challenges more effectively.
How do I bring up co-parenting counselling to a reluctant co-parent?
It can help to frame co-parenting counselling around your child’s well-being, rather than blame or criticism toward the co-parent. For example, you might say that you want to create more consistency for the child across households or help the child navigate school challenges in a more effective way. Timing also matters when bringing up the topic of counselling. It is usually best not to raise the idea during an argument or moment of high tension. Instead, choose a calm time, and offer the other parent a say in choosing the therapist, scheduling sessions, or deciding what goals to focus on in sessions.
