I use art and play with children, and body movement and talking with adults.
I set up my practice to reach out to individuals who struggle to feel at home within themselves, or in their communities. I specialise in working with individuals who struggle with identity issues due to factors of race, religion, politics, culture or language; individuals who feel like they don’t belong, and individuals who have complicated relationships with their bodies. I offer therapy in Arabic and English, and also therapy with children and adolescents.

Since qualifying I have worked as an art psychotherapist facilitating groups for adults within women’s refuge, homeless hostel, care home and community settings.
My approach is to offer a safe, contained and confidential space where it is possible to explore thoughts and feelings through art materials within the art therapy space. My way of working is psychodynamic and I combine this with a person centred and non-judgemental practice.

Welcome! I am an experienced Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Art psychotherapist. You may suffer from anxiety or depression or feel unsure about how to deal with relationship difficulties, separation , identity issues, bereavement ,mental health or addiction problems. You may feel stuck in certain patterns that you may wish to change and need support with. Making contact with people may feel difficult or you have low self confidence; the pandemic may have contributed to feelings of isolation and questioning one's future and purpose in life. In these situations it helps to express either verbally or through doing art your feelings.

For children - music and art activities provide non-verbal ways to build resilience, work on communication and relationship skills, and process difficult experiences such as a bereavement.
Creative arts therapy is for adults, children, and babies. As in traditional talk therapy, we’ll use the sessions to form a relationship and focus on areas that have brought you to therapy. In the sessions you'll have the chance to use music or other art activities to share and express your emotions. Sometimes you might choose to use this as a springboard for talking, or it can be a way to explore and process when you’re not ready to verbally process yet.

Oscar Wilde wrote, 'Be yourself, everyone else is taken'. Wise words but sometimes, it can feel too hard and complicated just ‘to be’. Hello, my name is Candida, an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist. I am convinced that much mental distress and profound unhappiness stem from a loss of communication; primarily with ourself. Psychotherapy is about beginning a conversation, an attempt to find sense in the intense, difficult feelings that make life so challenging. Pain needs a voice. It needs to be heard. Yet often words can feel elusive or unsatisfactory. This is where the arts are helpful. This is not about being good at art !

Art therapy is a form of Psychotherapy that allows individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences through non-verbal communication. It is not used as a diagnostic tool but rather as a way to address and think about emotional and psychological difficulties that may be causing distress and confusion. We all need support at different stages of our lives and using creative methods can help to ease conversation and to develop better understanding.

I can work with anyone and especially if you struggle to verbalise and connect with your emotions.

Hello, I am Anna Magnowska, Art Psychotherapist. Art therapy is a professionally regulated practice that integrates psychotherapy alongside creative expression and art making as a means of communication. Everyone possesses creativity, and art therapy can be a way to tap into complex feelings which can then begin to be processed - you do not need any experience making art . Art therapy is appropriate for all ages and stages of life, and can be particularly suited to people who struggle with verbal communication.

I work creatively, sometimes with play, art , and imagination.
Hello and welcome! I am a qualified and fully accredited psychotherapist, working from offices in Central London (near Bond Street tube) and WimbIedon. I work with clients facing a range of difficult issues in their lives. This is usually long-term work, but can also be short-term depending on needs. For me, the journey of psychotherapy is about deeper self-knowledge so that you gain the confidence to reveal more of your authentic self in the outside world. It is a fascinating (though at times painful) journey to find your feelings, voice, strength and qualities.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
