I have a high knowledge of adult
ADHD
from a personal, practical and scientific viewpoint and can help clients to see how it has been impacting on them and what may help them to live life in a way which is better suited to the differences
ADHD
brings.
I use existential therapy in session with my clients, as this approach sees each client as someone with their own unique experiences, and therefore their own unique difficulties. I seek to obtain an understanding of each client's world enabling us to then work together towards making changes which are specifically tailored to you and which help you to find a way towards a better future. I am an integrative therapist and so am also trained in humanistic person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapies which
add
to my ability to understand people's differing experiences and tailor the work to each individual.

As both Chartered Psychologist and
ADHD
Coach, research-based practice is integral to my work.
Overwhelmed? Stuck? Procrastinating? Trouble with organisation, planning and prioritising. Struggling to get things done? Difficulty with time management? These are some ways in which
ADHD
manifests. It is often accompanied with other conditions such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and feelings of shame and blame. Additionally, unhelpful coping strategies may follow.

Having been in clinical practice for over 45 years, much of it within the NHS, I have experience in working with most kinds of emotional and psychological difficulties. These include trauma, relationship problems, all kinds of anxiety states, depression and low self-esteem, disorders in the sense of self,

Spirituality and working with our higher dimensional aspects are a core part of my work, along with help in identifying a person's 'soul mission' and resolving blocks to pursuing this.

As a clinical psychologist I see clients with a range of disorders at all levels of severity. Typically I see patients who have been through other treatments, which they may have found useful, but which haven't fully resolved their issues. I am a comittee member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) Section of Sexualities and a member of the BPS Practice Guideline Review board. I have a strong background in autism,
ADHD
and brain injury; my patients have often not had approaches which are informed by or consider these facets of difference.

I support neurodiverse people with
ADHD
, dyslexia & autism, also their families & partners.
These are some of the things people may be thinking or saying when they decide to seek professional support: "I experience awful feelings of panic." "I feel anxious a lot of the time. "I feel tearful a lot." "I can feel angry all day and it feels bad." "Life appears very confusing and complicated" I offer professional counselling, support and strategies to help you navigate your way through whatever your issues may be, already in the first session. I hold a professional psychotherapy diploma from the Human Givens Institute. This approach helped a family member with anxiety very much which is why I chose to train in it also.

Maintaining your mental health is vital to living a happy and healthy life. Mental health is more than just the absence of mental disorders. It is an integral part of health; so much so that there is no health without mental health. Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the way you feel to improve what you think and what you do. By being able to approach situations in a more balanced way, you will hopefully be more effective in solving your problems and feel more in control of your life.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
