Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counselling in London

When we are not aware of our emotions or ideas, it can mean we act out certain behaviours – or experience certain feelings - without knowing why.
I am a pluralistic psychotherapist, as well as a counselling psychologist, with many years of experience in the NHS, universities and charities. Areas of special interest include: trauma, existential concerns, and depression. I also work with issues around kink/BDSM, and non-traditional (polyamory/non-monogamous) relationship styles.

I use an integrative approach to tailor each session to you, I do this by using evidence-based therapies, like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy ( ACT).
Hello, have you been feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself and those around you? Perhaps unhelpful behaviours and thoughts are effecting your confidence, relationships and sense of direction. You’re not alone, many of my clients come to therapy to reconnect with themselves, understand how their problems developed, and learn new ways to overcome their challenges. As an accredited CBT Therapist, with over 10 years of clinical experience, working in a variety of roles, I can support you with a range of different issues, and specialise in anxiety and mood-related problems, trauma, and low self-esteem.

My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where we can take things at a pace that feels right for you. During our sessions, we’ll explore what’s happening for you, and i’ll listen to understand your experiences. Collaboration is key in my approach- I believe in working side by side so that you feel empowered and an active part of our journey together.

As a Clinical Psychologist, my role is to support clients to make sense of their situation/themselves using compassionate, research-led approaches that are effective in practice. Through therapy, it might be that you uncover further goals and want support in deciding your next steps, I can help with that too.

My approach is grounded in unconditional acceptance and empathy.
Hello and welcome! While we all have an inherent capacity for growth, life’s challenges can sometimes obscure this potential. I provide confidential, personal, and non-judgmental psychotherapy sessions tailored to your unique situation to heal, grow, and thrive. In addition to my experience, I hold a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in psychology. After completing my bachelor’s degree in 1999, I began working as a school counsellor. This experience was included counselling sessions for youth and their families. After completing my master's degree, I started private practice to support youth, adults, couples, and families.

As a clinical psychologist with two doctoral degrees (PhD and Clinical Psychology), I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) and trauma-focused therapies including Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET).
Life can throw many challenges at us and affect us in many different ways. These might include being troubled by painful memories from difficult past experiences, struggling in relationships, caught in cycles of worry and anxiety or low mood, or constantly feeling not good enough. These experiences can make it feel difficult to cope and might leave you feeling unmotivated, unfulfilled, or like you are living a life directed by worry and fear rather than your values. I am here to provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore these difficulties and support you to navigate a way out of them.

I am a UKCP Registered Clinical Psychotherapist and have been in Clinical Practice since 2002. I know life can be tough and sometimes overwhelming so offer a place where we can talk about what is most difficult so we can make sense of it for you. I offer in person and online therapy (using Zoom or Teams).

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
