The interplay of mind and body is also central to the common mental health concerns I typically work with such as anxiety, anger, depression, trauma, eating disturbances and difficulties with sleep.
I am one of a small number of practitioners in the UK who is dually qualified as a chartered psychologist and a clinical sexologist/sex therapist. My clients may seek help for a specific sexual difficulty such as desire or arousal concerns; or may experience broader distress such as anxiety, low self esteem or perfectionism which also manifests in their sexual and relational world. I work with a wide range of client challenges, including depression, generalised anxiety, eating disorders, social anxiety, low self-esteem, panic attacks, PTSD, agoraphobia, specific phobias obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-harm, addiction, body dysmorphia, personality disorders, stress management, sleep difficulties and pain management
Warmth, empathy, non-judgemental acceptance, scientific rigour and humour are at the heart of my approach to therapy. I follow core CBT traditions which put the client and therapist on an equal footing in a collaborative partnership, with the client as the authoritative expert in themselves. I aim to debunk and demystify, strip out jargon, and explain transparently how I work. CBT aims to give clients a therapeutic fishing rod, not just a fish, so that clients are helped to become CBT experts, their own therapists for the future. Therapy can be challenging, but more often it should be healing, uplifting, enriching and fun.

I am particularly passionate about working with trauma survivors and helping them navigate through flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, fear, despair, anger, guilt, shame, and insomnia with a focus on building strength and resilience.
People with complex PTSD avoid seeking help due to the fear of having to relive painful past experiences. As a practitioner with profound interest in PTSD, I understand this concern deeply which is why I use a highly compassionate and structured 3-phase trauma model that focuses on establishing safety & stability before delving into distressing memories.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
