Although most people turn to therapy due to significant turning points like loss or bereavement, betrayal, conflict or a perceived defeat, others recognise their need to begin psychotherapeutic treatment due to feeling bewildered, unable to deal with unexpected low mood or experiencing anxiety.
I offer an integrative approach to psychotherapy, both individual and relationship.

I am a highly qualified Relationship & Sex Therapist with 15 years experience. I am also trained in 2 evidence-based treatment models, each grounded in decades of research, Emotionally Focused Therapy and The Gottman Method. These provide us with deeper understandings and knowledge of what is required to help couples build more secure, resilient and loving bonds. Often, couples in distress don't know how to respond to each other in the face of emotional turmoil as a result of not getting the love they need and want from each other. Unlocking these co-created patterns of dis-connection with a relationship therapist is often required.

You may be coming to counselling because you are in crisis, unable to see a way through a situation or feeling lost or alone. You might be seeking the 'right' answer around a difficult life decision. It may have taken many years to find the courage to seek help for issues which run deep, perhaps stemming from difficult, early experiences in childhood or from trauma. I specialise in working with self esteem and anxiety, relationship issues, and LGBTQ+ folks, however, everybody is welcome.

Do you need someone to talk to? Do you need some emotional support, and help understanding what’s going on? There can be times when you feel overwhelmed and powerless, and now you’ve taken the decision to reach out for help. My priority is to make you feel safe and supported enough in the session to talk freely about whatever is bothering you, about whatever you’re feeling, and that can be quite a daunting prospect. Maybe you’ve never really had the opportunity to explain your innermost thoughts and feelings to someone who cares. You’ll find it liberating, and it will be the start of a major journey of healing and self-discovery.

How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
