I see the therapeutic space as an opportunity to take a new look at current difficulties, taking into account old and often unconscious issues in order to promote the awareness that leads to more harmonious functioning and more satisfactory relationships. I prioritise establishing a climate of trust in the therapeutic relationship where warmth and empathy are paramount. My experience also reaches to supporting young adults who seek to better understand their concerns and symptoms, which can be in the range of depression, relationship snd family difficulties.

I am a highly experienced Family and Systemic Psychotherapist who works with families, couples and individuals. Currently I am working on-line. I specialise in child-related issues but I am also very experienced in working with adult families where there are relationship issues or unresolved difficulties from the past. My work with couples, often with a female colleague, is often when there is a desire to improve the relationship and rediscover some of the joy that may have been lost.

We all face many challenges in our lives and rather than struggle alone sometimes it can help to reach out to a safe and reliable person outside of our friends and family network to share our thoughts and feelings, talk through our difficulties and find new ways of coping and making some positive changes in our lives. I am an experienced, warm and non-judgemental counsellor who can offer to help. Whether you need just a few sessions to to focus on a specific problem or wish to explore some long-standing issues in more depth then we can do so over a longer period of time.

My Background: I began my career as a psychotherapist 10 years ago when I completed a degree in Clinical Psychology and a Master’s degree in Family -Couple Therapy.
“We almost always have choices, and the better the choice, the more we will be in control of our lives“. In my counseling sessions, I am committed to create a safe, warm, non-judgmental and confidential space within which you can freely address life's difficulties in a creative and meaningful way. My approach is integrative, derived from different therapeutic methods including third-waves cognitive therapy (such as schema therapy and ACT) and Mindfulness-based therapy. I also apply psychoeducation in order to optimise the effectiveness of my therapy sessions including self-awareness, anger management and stress management skills.

I’m interested in what works. For you. So I take a pluralistic, integrative approach and don’t limit myself to one particular way of working. Whether you’re seeing me for counselling, schema-based therapy or psychosexual therapy, I'll tailor my approach to suit your needs. And it’s the relationship between you and I which will be central to the work. Because I’m not a friend, colleague or family member, you can think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable in a judgement-free space. You can rely on me to be honest with you, and bring into your awareness your blind spots, and things on the edge of your awareness you might missing.

Prior to working as a therapist and coach, I was a partner in a leading family law firm in the City, practising as a family lawyer for over 12 years. I therefore bring to my work first-hand knowledge of the challenges and stresses one can face in the workplace, with particular insight into the struggle to balance all aspects of our lives, both personal and professional, and of building and maintaining healthy relationships. I have considerable experience in working with people who are having relationship or family issues or are going through divorce or separation. I also coach clients through career and life transitions.

As an LGBTQIA+ and BAME community member, I comprehend the struggles and issues of being different, which can affect you, your life, and even your family .
Have you faced judgement for simply being yourself? Has your sexuality, identity, gender, and life choices been disapproved of? It's challenging to live with constant questioning from family , friends, or others. We may even begin to question ourselves, wondering if we're "normal," if we're making the right choices, or if we'll ever be accepted. These thoughts can make it difficult to be confident in who we are and to find happiness. My role here is not to aim to fix things or help you feel "normal". Instead, I strive to work alongside you to discover a path that is uniquely yours, empowering you to be yourself and find happiness.

"We are our lives" the wholeness of ourselves includes our ethnic and family cultural background, and how these dynamics have caused patterns in how we function with difference.
We all come with issues of relating to the world in which we have grown. Having lived experience of difference has been the foundation of my practice. My Integrative approach incorporates the Intercultural model of therapy. I have worked extensively with people of various cultural backgrounds. I listen from the perspective of what is troubling you enabling an open environment for your issues to be welcomed. Working holistically, my intention is to create the confidence for your wholeness to shine through and, with warm acceptance, enable the real connection to your true self. Call for a free 15min chat to explore your needs.

I have worked in the NHS for 25 years, across a variety of settings and am currently undertaking an MA in Family Therapy . Neuro-biology and Somatic psychology are also areas that inform my practice. This includes helping individuals to understand choices around mental health medication, how the body and mind are 'one' and are both informed by the 'fight or flight' response, attachment styles and survival strategies. I use NVR (Non-Violent Resolution) to support families and young people with challenging behaviours.

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
