Welcome, my name is Michele. I'm a registered counsellor and psychotherapist - I help individuals and couples with their emotional health. I have private sector experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist. My focus involves abuse, depression and narcissistic personality disorder, and the specific problems encountered by men, transgender people and women. Clients are unique and helping them to gain a sense of who they are, what is taking place, and identifying whom they want to be is vital. Helping clients to recognise and hear their own authentic voices in a non-judgemental space is central to moving through life's challenges, towards future goals. We will focus on the changes and challenges that impact them. Issues of infidelity, substance use, illness, loss and all its elements, disconnection, re-connection, domestic violence, trauma, anxieties, depression, PTSD are common. It is the client who decides the end goal and we work together to attain that goal to best effect.

Life has a tendency to throw major challenges at us without warning. You may find yourself dealing with a specific life changing circumstance such as a bereavement, traumatic experience, relationship difficulties or redundancy to name a few. Sometimes being able to pin point feelings can be a little difficult. You may be experiencing feelings of being in a rut and are anxious, depressed or just unsure of how you currently feel about your life or a certain situation.

There are times in our lives when we feel that no one understands or is interested in what is going on for us. We can be left feeling misunderstood and uncared for. Talking about what is going on for us can be very difficult because it is not easy to find someone we can trust. I offer a person-centred approach but also use a holistic approach to therapy, this aids with focuses on an individual’s self-worth and values. I believe that being valued as a person, without the fear of being judged can help an individual to accept who they are and help reconnect with themselves with the people and things that are precious to them.

Hi, my name is Nicola and I am an Integrative counsellor bringing different therapies to suit your individual needs. We will work together to untangle your difficult emotions, initially by talking so we can gain an understanding of what's going on for you now. I work with a mind and body approach to help you identify where trauma, stress and unresolved emotions may be trapped in the body and by recognising these feelings we can work together to release tension and negative emotions that go with it. I will be there to sit with you and support you however you show up. I believe that all emotions are welcome in the room.

I am an integrative counsellor with experience in both the private and NHS sectors, working with adults and young people. In my experience, many clients come for counselling for help with depression and anxiety caused by difficulties within relationships, friendships, work-based stress as well as isolation and loneliness. By gently encouraging and challenging them to face up to their fears and concerns, they achieve greater insight and self-knowledge and gain a larger perspective on their situation. Through this they come to realise that there are other options and choices available to them through which they may improve well-being

Welcome! I’m a Counselling Psychologist based in South West London. I work with two groups: adults seeking support for themselves, and parents of children aged 0–12 who need guidance and support for their little ones. People come to me for many reasons—sometimes with a clear issue, sometimes after trauma or a recent ADHD or autism diagnosis, or simply sensing that something feels off. Together, we can explore your experiences at a pace that feels safe and right for you.

Counselling can help you to explore and work through emotional difficulties you may be experiencing that could be affecting your thoughts and behaviours. It is a space for you to share things that you may be finding difficult to talk to your friends and family about. These difficulties may be from your past that are now causing problems in your present or from a more recent trauma you have experienced in your life such as a relationship break-up, loss of someone close to you or difficulties with getting to sleep or sleep not feeling like sleep anymore, but feeling more like an escape.

I am an experienced and accredited psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor. The less we are aware of our hidden feelings, thoughts and perceptions, the more they control us and the more we stay stuck in old patterns that repeat themselves. I will work with you to help you understand how you find yourself unable to make changes to your life, sometimes overwhelmed by your suffering. I work with adults, young adults and couples and I accept some insurance referrals.

I believe that it takes courage to reach out and seek the support of a counsellor - I appreciate how difficult getting to this place can be. We are all impacted differently by the world in which we live which can lead to a sense of isolation or 'homelessness' within ourselves. Counselling and Psychotherapy can be seen as an investment in you, an investment that has the potential to bring you from a place of crisis or confusion to one of relief.

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
