You are a point of view, a perspective – I'm here to get to know you and how you construct your reality. Why are you who you are? What has happened to you? What are your strengths, what holds you back? How do you get in your own way? We can all get stuck and become rigid in how we look at the world, and - most importantly - how we look at ourselves. Therapy is a space where we can experiment with looking at things differently, to see whether we can find a new way of being that serves us better, here, today, rather than feeling held down by the past, or like we don't have agency over the direction of our lives.

I am a Chartered and Registered Counselling Psychologist who adopts a pluralistic framework based on the premise that no one therapeutic approach is superior, and different clients are likely to benefit from different therapeutic methods at different points in time. The pluralistic position puts the client and their needs at the centre of therapy and is based on working collaboratively. I honestly believe that people are experts of themselves but with help from trained professionals they can have a better understanding of themselves and the reason(s) for their behaviours.

Do you find yourself struggling to manage anxiety or depression related difficulties? Perhaps you are aware that you need to make changes but are unsure of where to start? We all get stressed from time to time - in fact research shows that in England, in any given week, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression. Many people report that they worry constantly or much of the time, leading to sleepless nights and unhealthy coping habits. Sometimes feelings of anxiety and low mood may be related to traumatic, distressing experiences from the past.

My main goal is to help people to achieve a better quality of life by helping them to develop awareness and responsibility on their needs and desires. I consider therapy as a creative process between the client and the therapist that starts from a stuck point in life due to a symptom, a feeling of loss, a fear or a transition from one life stage into the next one. For me therapy is not about “to cure something wrong inside us” but an opportunity to transform our dysfunctional way to live.

My specialist areas are relational difficulties and trauma. From these areas, we experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown, and at times other harmful and/or repetitive behaviours. My focus will be on helping you understand the function they have served for you, where they come from, and how to bring about change I have experience of working with individuals who present with diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, with one or more of the many different personality disorder, and with individuals who experience psychotic states of mind. That said, anyone can engage in therapy at any time, and, for any reason.

I can imagine, given that you are here, there may be something in your life that is causing you discomfort. Welcome, and well done for taking the first step towards getting some support. Some people seek out therapy because they have felt depressed, anxious or angry for a long time; others may want help for relationship difficulties, self-destructive habits or a chronic illness that is interfering with their emotional or physical well-being. Sometimes, unexpected changes or circumstances also bring people into therapy - for example, going through a divorce, feeling overwhelmed by a new job, or grieving the loss of a family member.

Are you facing difficulties in life? Our experiences can make us pessimistic, assume the worst, be constantly worried about the past repeating itself and anxious about the future. Sometimes it can feel there’s no way out. It doesn’t have to be this way, you can change the way you think, in turn changing your outcomes, interactions, behaviours, and experiences. Well done for taking the first step to go to therapy, the next step is choosing the right therapist. I can help you explore your thoughts, where they stem from, work with you to build resiliency, healthy habits and help you achieve your therapy goals.

Hello! My name is Giorgia and I'm a passionate Psychologist! Through a safe, authentic, empathic and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, I help my clients to find a better way to see and accept themself while managing their life's challenges. We all go through hard moments in life, where emotional pain, lack of hope and feelings of being out of control, limit our ability to cope. One of the central core of my work is supporting my clients to feel in charge of thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and issues. These processes develop an awareness of how we think, how we perceive the world, and in particular, how we react to it.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
