Spirituality Counselling in Southwark
Often the hardest part of creating change in our lives is simply making the conscious decision to do so. If you have found your way here, you are at least considering therapy & wanting to know more about how it might help you right now. This is a positive first step! It shows great courage to face life's difficulties & to reach out for support. But how does change actually happen? Where do we start? And as the world works through its troubles, how can we focus when our minds are surrounded by anxiety & uncertainty?

Sometimes life is overwhelming, and it can be difficult to see past what we are struggling with. If you are reading this then you have already taken the first steps of what might feel like a dauting and perhaps lonely process. The seeking of therapy in itself might be seen to reveal an intuitive sense of the need to ask for and to take support in order to move beyond where we may have become stuck.
By taking a relational approach to therapy, I create a warm and nurturing space which is safe enough to explore and share the depth of your experience.

Welcome. Whatever has brought you to scroll these profiles, the right therapeutic relationship can help you be heard, seen and understood. I can offer you a safe and non-judgemental space to explore your situation and begin to move forward.

Exploring identity, relationships, or past trauma? Have you been searching for answers as to why things don't fit or flow? Perhaps you've become increasingly frustrated or distraught about difficulties you're facing moving through the world. Why is it so challenging to just be 'me'? You wonder why relationships and connections don't come as easily to you as they seem to for others. Maybe you have a fair understanding of why: the shadows of past (or present) traumas encroaching on every facet of your life. Have you been searching for meaning, a deep connection, self-understanding, or just an untangling of a complicated life journey?

Many therapies focus on managing symptoms — reducing anxiety, shifting unhelpful thoughts, building coping strategies. These can be genuinely useful. My approach works at a different level. It’s interested in why you keep finding yourself in the same kinds of situations, why certain feelings won’t shift, and why patterns you didn’t choose seem to run your life.
Most of us carry patterns that were shaped long before we had words for them. They show up in how we relate to others, what makes us anxious, what we avoid, how we feel about ourselves when things go wrong. Until those patterns are understood, they tend to repeat.

People can get trapped between two painful positions: feeling powerless to change, or blaming themselves for not changing. Or both. And both create suffering. Something in life may no longer be working. You may feel stuck in patterns you can’t shift - anxiety, shame, low mood, compulsive habits, relationship difficulties or a sense of lost purpose. On the outside you may or may not seem to be coping, but inside you know you are not.

Spirituality Counsellors
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
