I provide an open, warm and confidential space which enables clients to explore issues, which may have been difficult to deal with alone. I view therapy as an individual process and a journey of self discovery that create an opportunity to become aware of inner conflicts and unhelpful patterns of behaviour. I recognise that there is not one approach to therapy that will suit everyone. Hence, I incorporate integrative approach that means I can adapt therapy to each client and their individual needs. I can offer help and have worked with people struggling with a range of conditions including depression, anxiety or adjustment.

I gave my Counselling business the name NuVista (new view/Horizon because it was born from my vision and indeed my own personal journey that counselling or talking therapy can give people a new view of life once they; with the therapists help have explored and untangled the issues that make them anxious, stressed, depressed, bereaved, feeling suicidal or simply struggling with day to day life, or their jobs, their relationships their family life, their sexuality or even historical events that have been rendered unconscious or hidden and never spoken about. For me the goal or vision was to have a new outlook on life - a New View.

SERVICES I PROVIDE: Like all forms of therapy, integrative therapy requires that you are open to exploring your fears, your hopes, your life, what is causing you challenges, and what you hope for your future. But if you like the idea of a therapy which is a bit more bespoke and less rigid than other forms, then integrative therapy might indeed be for you. Would you like to try this type of therapy?

As a senior clinical psychologist, I specialise in working with people experiencing low self-esteem, difficulty managing strong emotions and caught in unhelpful or destructive patterns in their relationships. Experiencing negative and traumatic events can lead us to develop ways of coping which allowed us to survive at the time, but now keep us stuck and keep our problems going. I know how scary and shameful the idea of opening up about difficult experiences and self-destructive cycles can feel. I have a warm, genuine style, and make sure that you feel supported and never judged, so that you feel safe enough to do this work.

Others may have noticed that they are stuck in unhelpful and painful patterns. Or perhaps wanting to get to know themselves on a deeper level or change the way they interact with themselves.

How long would you like to be in the dark, telling me how dark it is? When shall we look for the light? Each of us is born with a powerful set of tools which we use to seek out and satisfy our needs for emotional nourishment. If those needs are being met in healthy, balanced and sustainable ways it is very much easier to maintain good emotional health. However, if that guidance system is not properly programmed, or if it has been damaged in some way, perhaps through trauma or poor skills development, it will be difficult to build a firm foundation for emotional well-being. Really good therapy will address those issues, quickly.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
