Psychodynamic work recognises how past experiences shape present relationships & what we feel about ourselves.
Please do get in touch if you are experiencing relationship or personal difficulties. I’ve been helping those suffering psychological problems for over a decade. Primarily an Adult & Young person Counsellor / Psychotherapist, I’m frequently approached by people in creative or performance roles, the Arts, TV, Sport, etc. While specific issues often bring us to counselling, I work at depth from a psychoanalytically informed vantage where the broader landscape of emotional life is brought into frame. From comfortable rooms in London Bridge, SE1 & Stamford, PE9, I can also work with you online, a popular but no less effective format.

As an integrative therapist I combine person-centred warmth with psychodynamic depth, helping you feel heard while making sense of how your past shapes your present.
I spent 20 years in music and arts education before training as a therapist and I understand creative life from the inside. I also work with people navigating neurodivergence, exploring what's authentically them versus what's been masking.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, emotional disconnection, relationship difficulties, grief, or the impact of past experiences. I also have experience supporting individuals affected by war, displacement, migration, and loss. Together, we can explore patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing, helping you develop greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and a sense of stability.

psychodynamic, behavioural, humanistic, existential & transpersonal.
The modern pressures of life can take their toll on us – increasing responsibilities and being connected 24/7 can leave us feeling burnt out, anxious, and overwhelmed. Even when we do manage to disconnect, we find it difficult to disconnect from our racing thoughts. If you’re new to therapy it can be daunting, however taking this brave step can be rewarding. It can give you the space to explore what is really going on, process difficult emotions, develop healthy coping strategies and restore your mental well-being - so that you aren’t just surviving, but thriving in the world.

The main approaches I use are attachment-based ( psychodynamic, MBT and TFP) but I also draw on ideas from CBT, systemic and DBT.
I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years experience. Individuals coming to see me may be considering therapy for a specific concern or difficulty (e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties) or have a specific question, event or life transition that needs attention. Others may have noticed that they are stuck in unhelpful and painful patterns. Or perhaps wanting to get to know themselves on a deeper level or change the way they interact with themselves.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw from person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, relational, and trauma-informed approaches.
Sometimes people come to therapy feeling emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, disconnected from themselves, or exhausted from carrying too much alone. You may be struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, relationship difficulties, past experiences, or a sense that you have spent much of your life surviving rather than truly feeling able to be yourself. I offer a warm, relational, and non-judgemental space where we can explore your experiences together and help you develop greater self-understanding, emotional clarity, and a more connected relationship with yourself and others.

Hi, I'm Carys, an integrative psychotherapist based in London Bridge, working with individuals and couples. People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be navigating a life transition, struggling in relationships, feeling stuck in familiar patterns, or carrying the impact of difficult childhood experiences. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking support; at other times there is simply a sense that something no longer feels right. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of your experiences.

Essentially, counselling and psychotherapy offers us an opportunity to learn about ourselves. And none more so than when faced with the emotional challenges that are often part of everyday life. At these times we may feel on our own, stuck and unsure of which way to turn. It may also be difficult to find someone we can trust and who will understand, or, in such a busy world, someone who has the time to listen. This is when a counsellor or a psychotherapist can help. I offer a calm, caring, safe, respectful and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.

Counselling is a space to talk, think and be listened to in confidence with a trained professional who will respect you and your experiences. Life can be challenging especially when we are dealing with difficult or overwhelming feelings. It is often hard to understand the root of one's own pain and perhaps talking to friends and family is too difficult or does not seem to bring about the change and acceptance you seek. For those feeling stuck or isolated, counselling will improve your emotional wellbeing and help you feel more in control of your life, and with the right counsellor it will lead to positive and lasting change.

Whether your concern is with communication, sex, power dynamics, money, emotional connection, anxiety, depression, dating, an affair or something unresolved and long past, I offer a safe and supportive environment where couples & individuals can openly discuss their issues and find ways to overcome the difficulties. Couples are enabled to consciously take charge of their relationship - to create it as you want it to be. This may be towards a happier and healthier relationship, or indeed to positively manage separation & the practicalities of divorce.

I am a Person Centred Therapist registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have extensive experience working with under-represented communities and helping people understanding their behaviours. My counselling journey started a decade ago, not as a qualified counsellor, but as a client. By offering a judgment free space and the opportunity to be vulnerable, my therapist supported me on my journey of self-acceptance. It is on that connection between counsellor and client that I base my work. In my humanistic approach to therapy I believe that my clients are the experts of themselves.

You may be feeling down, unmotivated, anxious, angry or misunderstood, needing a safe, impartial space to work through what's troubling you or holding you back to find a clearer perspective on behaviour patterns, core beliefs and coping mechanisms that no longer serve you. Balancing nurture that is reparative and challenge that is transformative, I will guide you in your process to reflect deeply on your concerns and gain insight into your subconscious drives to discover the change and growth that will enable you to re-write your story to move forward as your authentic self in your life and your relationships.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
