You might be feeling stuck or wondering whether you've made the right decision. You might not even know what the right decision is. You might even want to explore who it is that you are, why you do the things that you do, or why you're in the situation that you're in. If that is you, then consider what it is that counselling and psychotherapy might be able to do in helping you to consider all these questions that you might have about yourself and your situation.

I originally trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the 1980's and then worked as an actor for many years: over the last 22+ years my life started to take a different turn and I now enjoy working as a counsellor with individual clients. As an Integrative Transpersonal Counsellor I draw together different approaches whilst offering therapy with soul - looking beyond the immediate problem, or symptom to work in ways that honour each client's deeper journey. For me therapy has meant a chance to revisit old stories and beliefs whilst gaining fresh insights and understandings.

My ideal client is someone who is mentally, emotionally, or physically drained—often struggling with anxiety, depression, low energy, unresolved trauma, relationship distress, or unhealthy habits such as emotional eating, smoking, or burnout-driven behaviors. They may appear functional externally but feel disconnected internally. Many also face issues with negative emotions, low libido, poor gut health, chronic stress, weak performance or lack of purpose. They are drawn to my approach because it bridges modern psychotherapy and natural healing sciences—addressing the brain, body, and environment as one ecosystem.

I help high-performing professionals/entrepreneurs, they are often driven by logic and working in tech/finance/law/media/arts. I specialise in helping people develop a relationship with their body, and to understand the impact of their feelings and emotions on the body and vice versa. I often work with those with experience of living life on the edge, and/or complex, troubled relationships. I work well with people for whom talking about personal matters feels very difficult. I am not easily shocked and I also understand the need for taking things slowly and sensitively. My approach is kind, practical, down-to-earth and creative.

I was helped tremendously by my own experience of therapy, and have been influenced by a variety of approaches to it. I know a thing or two about depression, not caring much for oneself and struggling to understand one’s feelings; I come at it as one who has seen for himself that a better life and a better relationship with the self is both possible and worthwhile. If you would like to know more about me, how I understand therapy and how I work, you might want to visit my website, where I write about all at some depth.

Is anxiety draining you? I work with people in their 20s and 30s whose anxiety and overthinking impact their relationships, work, and other areas of life. Maybe you appear calm or ‘fine’ to others, but internally you’re feeling stressed and tired. Maybe anxiety gets in the way of what you want or need to do - this may look like procrastinating, struggling to say ‘no’ or what you really mean, or finding it difficult to make decisions because you worry you won’t do things the ‘right’ way. Your usual coping strategies may be to stay busy or just push through without asking for help, but this comes at a cost: you’re likely exhausted.

I work with people who are stuck and want to get moving again in some area of their lives. They can be stuck for many reasons, but commonly this is anxiety, depression or life events, including the death of someone close, the loss of a job or illness, to name a few. To address these challenges, I offer a space and time to explore what is bothering you, what the best thing to focus on right now is, and how we can work together to get things moving again.

I work from a place of trying to support people in becoming unstuck and starting to move forward. Everybody comes to therapy with their own unique reasons. This can be due to specific psychological difficulties, such as depression or anxiety, feeling sad, difficult early life experiences, traumatic events, high-stress levels, or a general sense of feeling unfulfilled. I believe every person has a unique story, and psychological therapy should be adjusted appropriately as there is no “one-size-fits-all” in understanding our mental world.

To meet In therapy is to face your fears and vulnerability in a safe and non judgemental space. I love to create an alliance with you as a client to discover and challenge what lies Inside you, aim to have a deep understanding of your world, your hopes and your needs. Often people need to find their own truth and for this we may need to find questions that need answering , uncover pathways that feel blocked and make choices that can unlock you towards freedom and a more loving space for your self and your life.

How long would you like to be in the dark, telling me how dark it is? When shall we look for the light? Each of us is born with a powerful set of tools which we use to seek out and satisfy our needs for emotional nourishment. If those needs are being met in healthy, balanced and sustainable ways it is very much easier to maintain good emotional health. However, if that guidance system is not properly programmed, or if it has been damaged in some way, perhaps through trauma or poor skills development, it will be difficult to build a firm foundation for emotional well-being. Really good therapy will address those issues, quickly.

During our lives we may have experience difficulties from early childhood that continue to impact into our adulthood, having someone to listen your problems with an understanding on life experiences and the expertise will benefit greatly to take you safely through a journey to confront and overcome these challenges towards a positive future. The most important support to give to someone is allowing them to feel safe, secure and a non -judgemental space to explore their problems through listening.

Men's Issues Counsellors

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
