Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Counselling in Southwark
I specialise in OCD and "Pure O", combining first-line ERP with ACT, while integrating psychodynamic approaches to identify deeper relational patterns that may be driving obsessive symptoms.
I often work with people who, despite their best efforts, feel as though they are working against themselves when it comes to their goals and relationships. Even though they deeply want change, something keeps holding them back. This inner conflict can show up as anxiety, depression, OCD, intrusive thoughts, low self-worth, or a general sense of feeling stuck and unfulfilled. In therapy, I help you to gently uncover these hidden reasons, emotional conflicts, and resistances you may not be fully aware of. I offer a warm, steady, and non-judgmental space to explore these patterns at your own pace.

I aim to help people become unstuck and start to move forward. I believe everybody comes to therapy with their own unique reasons. This can be due to specific psychological difficulties, such as depression or anxiety, feeling sad, difficult early life experiences, traumatic events, high-stress levels, or a general sense of feeling unfulfilled. I believe every person has a unique story, and psychological therapy should be adjusted appropriately as there is no “one-size-fits-all” in understanding our mental world.

Many of my adult and young clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed with worries, can't sleep, feel stuck, and are very self-critical. You may find yourself feeling stressed, anxious about what others think (social anxiety), having intrusive thoughts (OCD), struggling with your emotions, and not being your authentic self. Together, we can help you understand what’s been holding you back, develop healthier ways of coping and relating, and move towards a life that feels more meaningful, connected and true to who you are.

H&N Psychology (Health and Neuro Psychology Services) is a private service offering psychological therapy and educational groups for individuals struggling with their mental health or adjusting to life after illness or injury, or for those with a diagnosis of ADHD/Autism/AuDHD. It grew out of years of Dr Atkin and Dr Woollard working side by side in the NHS, supporting people in busy hospital settings, and learning first-hand what really helps.
We’ve found that the most meaningful change happens when there’s space for genuine collaboration. We clearly set out a plan for our sessions and timelines so you know what to expect.

I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Supervisor with a significant amount of experience of working with clients with a wide range of difficulties. I can understand how difficult it must be asking for help and finding suitable therapist. Therapy is largely dependent on the relationship between the client and therapist. Without this, change would be very challenging. I offer and warm, safe, non-judgemental compassionate environment for people to be themselves so that change is possible. This makes exploring your thoughts, feelings and patterns much easier giving you the power to move forward in new way in your life.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Counsellors
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviours that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioural therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioural change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
