I have a lot of experience with anxiety issues, including panic attacks; abuse, including sexual abuse; trauma often treated by using EMDR.
Whatever the difficulty you are going through right now, you are not alone. All feelings and thoughts you may be experiencing are valid. We can explore together what may feel very confusing and overwhelming, make sense of it and find the best way to go forward.

In addition to providing high quality CBT I use EMDR therapy.
Emotional problems are very common. I struggled in early adulthood with severe anxiety and I experienced taking the hugely difficult step of finding a psychologist. I'm glad that I did, as I found effective help and recovered. The experience now gives me an invaluable window in to my client's feelings.

I am trained in EMDR, and use CFT, DBT, ACT, and Schema Therapy.
As a senior clinical psychologist, I specialise in working with people experiencing low self-esteem, difficulty managing strong emotions and caught in unhelpful or destructive patterns in their relationships. Experiencing negative and traumatic events can lead us to develop ways of coping which allowed us to survive at the time, but now keep us stuck and keep our problems going. I know how scary and shameful the idea of opening up about difficult experiences and self-destructive cycles can feel. I have a warm, genuine style, and make sure that you feel supported and never judged, so that you feel safe enough to do this work.

I provide weekly psychotherapy as well as Eye Movment Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR) to help people who have been exposed to traumatic events/suffered trauma, this is also effective for treating phobias.
I am accredited with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work with people to help them understand their emotional and psychological distress. My work helps them to alleviate this distress. Though you don’t need to be in “distress” to attend therapy, people also come to increase their self awareness and gain a different perspective.

I integrate principles of acceptance and commitment therapy, compassion focused therapy and polyvagal theory with CBT and EMDR. I am passionate about the integrative approach with the body and mind. If bringing yoga practices such as breath work, movement or philosophy is helpful and invited, this can bring a further holistic approach to your therapy.

Alternatively, I can offer EMDR, which is a treatment for trauma and other experiences from the recent or distant past which have adversely affected you.
I can help you to gain clarity about yourself, your situation and the patterns in your relationships. I work psychodynamically so I will be interested in your past and how it is being lived out today. We can think about the way you have learned to protect yourself with your own individual defences and we can consider how helpful to you these currently are.

I integrate evidence-based therapies such as CBT, ACT, and CFT, alongside body-focused methods like EMDR and Brainspotting to address trauma and stress on a deeper, physiological level.
Well into the 21st century, life is faster and, in many ways, “easier”—the world is a click away. Yet, expectations have multiplied. We’re supposed to be efficient, confident, independent, yet also connected, relaxed, and free. These contradictions can leave us feeling tense, confused, or dissatisfied, making it challenging to navigate life’s uncertainties. Amid this, we juggle relationships, family, work, and friendships—sometimes to the point where the struggle feels overwhelming. Challenges may manifest as anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, or simply a sense of exhaustion, burnout, or feeling lost.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
