Some people seek psychotherapy and counselling because of a quiet desire for something more, some because of an absence of joy and liveliness, some feel a lingering sadness, some find themselves in shallow relationships, some are suffering the pains of depression, anxiety or anger, some feel close to madness, some are curious to take a closer look at the riches within.

If you're stuck in patterns that aren't working, struggling in relationships, feeling disconnected from yourself or others, or trying to make sense of something difficult, together we can work out what's happening, why, and how things can change. I work with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and the lasting effects of trauma. We explore what is keeping you stuck: patterns that repeat, the inner voices that shape how you see yourself, the roles you find yourself in, and ways of coping that may once have helped but now create problems. My approach is thoughtful and direct. I’ll challenge you and laugh with you.

We all encounter difficult times in life. The loss of loved ones, relationship breakdown, difficulties at work, and poor physical health, for example, may have a huge impact on our ability to function. During these times we may find it difficult to cope and struggle to know what to do to feel better.

My clients are high achievers who are, by most visible measures, doing well. What's hidden, sometimes for many years, is a deep-seated belief that's becoming hard to escape. They come because this familiar problem has returned, a decision keeps getting deferred, or a private reckoning is no longer sustainable. The discomfort between how they appear and how they actually feel has become too costly to ignore. I work relationally, using Transactional Analysis as a primary framework. That means looking at what's driving the narrative, not just how to control it.

Hello, Do you feel anxious, low or overwhelmed? You may not be sure what you need, only that something no longer fits, a relationship, an old pattern, or a way of being. Perhaps you’ve been coping on your own, and it’s been hard. I offer a collaborative space grounded in care and curiosity, where we can explore whatever feels most important, at your pace. My work is rooted in psychosynthesis, a holistic, integrative approach and relational therapy. I am mostly influenced by process-oriented, trauma-informed and somatic approaches.

Sometimes life gets really hard - complicated, confusing and painful. You're feeling anxious, down or depressed and you can't work out why. Maybe you do know why, but you've never felt able to speak about the reasons with anyone. The pace of modern life or past experiences can often make you feel that you have to try and deal with your difficulties by yourself, by sweeping them under the carpet or putting on a brave face. Perhaps it has seemed that if you just keep going, one day you’d wake up and your problems will have disappeared - but they haven't. So now you've decided to try something new, to seek some help.

At certain times, we all struggle to understand who we are, what we need or want, who our true friends and allies are. We may struggle to connect to others - to be intimate or to be fully present. We may wonder about what is going on in our body and mind, why we can’t find clarity and peace. While some issues we face are existential and universal, some are more of our own making or resulting from our particular conditioning. Therapy can help us to distinguish between the (sometimes hard) truths that need to be accepted and the distorted beliefs that need to be challenged.

I see being a therapist as an immense privilege. I have the opportunity to walk alongside my clients as they navigate life's challenges, deepen their self-understanding, and move towards a more fulfilling way of being. Alongside my broad therapeutic practice, I have developed a particular interest in working with clients experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, and questions around identity. I also have specialist experience supporting clients in their masculine and feminine energies, becoming a parent, and LGBTQ+ experiences.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist. I have many years of experience working with a diverse range of people and whatever they choose to bring to their therapy. Are you feeling like it's time to change the patterns and behaviours that feel unhelpful and hinder your enjoyment of daily life? Working together, we can look at the past and the events in it which now inform your present. I work collaboratively, led by you, without judgement but with warmth and an open attitude. I believe in helping you feel seen and heard - really listened to, perhaps in a way you have not previously experienced.

I work with people who are experiencing burnout, overwhelm, anxiety and stress, which may have come from childhood trauma. I have helped clients with complex issues understand their patterns and explore options for living with less discomfort. Come and see me if you want to start improving your confidence and self-esteem by strengthening your understanding of your own needs and exploring why you have developed patterns in your life. I also work on clients' self-compassion, especially when they are experiencing shame and/or negative self-talk. Most of my clients start to feel improvements with their issues within months.

I originally trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the 1980's and then worked as an actor for many years: over the last 22+ years my life started to take a different turn and I now enjoy working as a counsellor with individual clients. As an Integrative Transpersonal Counsellor I draw together different approaches whilst offering therapy with soul - looking beyond the immediate problem, or symptom to work in ways that honour each client's deeper journey. For me therapy has meant a chance to revisit old stories and beliefs whilst gaining fresh insights and understandings.

You can't explain why you are how you are. Perhaps you cry more easily than feels 'right' - or you struggle to feel. Perhaps you behave in ways that damage relationships, or limit opportunities. Do you avoid facing things? Perhaps you're risk averse, or reckless. Something about how you react to the world and how you behave is costing you in concrete ways. What looks like a problem with alcohol or food, anger or anxiety is rarely just that. Underneath those are deeper parts of you. They shape how you approach people, opportunities and relationships; how you are at work, with your family, in love. And how you are within yourself.

Starting therapy is the first step in getting to know yourself a bit more so the changes you wish in your life can take place. There can be many reasons why you might be seeking therapy: from either a particular event or a long-standing difficulty or because you are interested in your personal growth. In any case, I strive to provide you with a safe and confidential space where your concerns can be explored at your own pace. I aim to help you discover, with compassion, more about yourself and foster your growth of self-awareness and authenticity so positive choices can be made.
