Relationship issues?
Life happens, and the majority of the time we seem to find a way to "happen" with it. We find a way to navigate through the motions of "doing" and get to a place of "being". Being excited, being present, being happy - but sometimes along the way it can get confusing, blurry and we can feel a bit lost. As a certified counsellor, I work with you through the confusion, to get to a place of clarity. I explore the past and present with you using an integrated therapeutic approach - blending the different skills I've learnt in practice to assist you with where you are right now. Many therapists talk about the varying styles of therapy

My approach is GSRD (Gender, Sexuality, Relationship Diversity) affirmative meaning i have a passion for and extensive experience supporting Queer & LGBTQI+ as well as other non-heteronormative ways of living/being.
Problems in living often result in diminished capacity and ability to be experimental/creative in thinking, feeling and desiring. Whatever it is that brings you to therapy may require investigation and exploration into your current ways of living/being with careful excavation into your histories (personal, family, transgenerational, existential, etc

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for individuals and couples in Archway, Finsbury Park and London Bridge.
I am a psychotherapist and supervisor and have been working with individuals and groups for the last twenty years. For several years I was on the training committee at AGIP including two years as chair. I am currently the course leader for the Guild's diploma in psychoanalytic supervision. I would describe my orientation as psychoanalytic from within a contemplative perspective. By this I mean that I subscribe to the idea of an unconscious and believe events and attitudes from early life can impact on our lives today. I understand that an awareness of these currents helps to increase the choices available to us.

I understand it is important for people to know they are accepted, in a safe place and respected by their counsellor to help develop a trusting positive relationship.
During our lives we may have experience difficulties from early childhood that continue to impact into our adulthood, having someone to listen your problems with an understanding on life experiences and the expertise will benefit greatly to take you safely through a journey to confront and overcome these challenges towards a positive future. The most important support to give to someone is allowing them to feel safe, secure and a non -judgemental space to explore their problems through listening.

The healing power of the therapeutic relationship is crucial to my practice.
We all have times where we may feel stuck or overwhelmed by different situations. Most people can benefit from therapy at some point in their lives, be it when life feels difficult or for personal-development. I offer a safe and confidential space where together we can explore your difficulties and help you get a deeper understanding of yourself.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
