When working with trauma, my practice is influenced by schema therapy, compassion focused therapy and dyadic developmental psychotherapy.
A quote that I often find myself coming back to is ‘shame dies when stories are told in safe places’. Every one of us has our own unique story and I have been privileged enough to spend 13 years working in the NHS listening to the stories of individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The essence of the therapy I offer is to create that safe place for your story to be told so that, together, we are able to make sense of how you have come to reach where you are in your life and what might be getting in the way of you moving past the difficulties you are facing.

I have a particular interest in trauma and the mind-body relationship, including the psychological impact of health problems and the physical manifestations of emotional distress.
I offer individual open-ended therapy either in person or by video link. I work to deepen understanding of our relationships and the different manifestations of our distress. I work to compassionately explore the ways in which the past affects the present and help clients to access their own healing potential.

Getting appropriate support at an early stage is important for children who have experienced physical or emotional trauma.
I specialise in working with children with social-behavioural challenges through music. While some children don't like to talk about their feelings, most of them find music a great outlet to express themselves. I am also an EDMR practitioner who can help children process traumatic events and build a positive sense of self.

These difficulties may be from your past that are now causing problems in your present or from a more recent trauma you have experienced in your life such as a relationship break-up, loss of someone close to you or difficulties with getting to sleep or sleep not feeling like sleep anymore, but feeling more like an escape.
I use a variety of therapeutic approaches complimented with a creative style of working which can be tailored to best meeting the needs of an adult or the needs of a child. This creative style of support can be helpful during the therapy sessions when things may become a little challenging to express yourself with the use of just words alone.

If everyday life sometimes overwhelms you, for whatever reason, whether it's a result of trauma, difficult life changes, or unhelpful ideas about who you are, change is possible and can be quicker than you would think!
Harnessing your unique resources and strengths I aim to work with you in partnership to find direction and control in as few sessions as possible. A session would include listening very carefully to your story, setting goals, deep relaxation, agreeing on solutions, rehearsing success, using a detraumatising technique where necessary and the setting of tasks.

I have been lucky enough in my career to date to work with some incredibly inspiring and brave individuals who have been at a crossroads in their life. Sometimes making change felt frightening or impossible due to past beliefs, stuck patterns of behaviour or limiting thought processes. Others were struggling to move on after devastation, illness, loss or identity crisis. I believe it is a privilege to be able to guide those in need at these times due to the courage and vulnerability they show. They are asking from the heart for a new beginning - to break from the past, not feel scared by the future and live truly in the present.

Creative and Embodied Psychotherapy is a holistic and trauma informed approach to wellbeing, that works with the body and the mind to help you gain deeper insight and awareness into your inner world and experiences that words alone can’t reach, supporting you to connect with your strengths, resources and ability to heal, whilst building nervous system capacity and supporting brain plasticity; the brain’s ability to change, adapt, and form new neural pathways.
Internal Family Systems Therapy empowers you to understand the different “parts” of your inner world with curiosity rather than judgment. By accessing a calm and compassionate sense of Self, IFS activates neural pathways linked to safety, emotional regulation, and integration, allowing old patterns to soften and healing to unfold.

I worked with individuals with a variety of clinical presentation including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic disorder ( PTSD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), life transitions, bereavement, suicidal thoughts and abuse.
Each person is unique and distinctive and therefore one approach may not fit them all. I place the client-therapist relationship at the heart of an effective therapeutic process providing an honest and non-judgmental stance where your feelings can be expressed and contained in a safe and confidential setting. You might want to make sense of the past and explore how it can sometimes be reconstructed in the present or you might seek to get back in touch with your real self through acceptance and a better mind-body connection.

I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues ( trauma, abandonment, attachment, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, illness, major life transitions) and am particularly interested in working within and deriving meaning from the ‘thresholds’ we experience in life as a source of creative potential.
I am an accredited psychotherapist and qualified mindfulness teacher. I practice Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP), a mindfulness based, transpersonal approach to therapy that is firmly rooted in the belief that at the ‘core’ of each of us lies the potential to connect more deeply with our inherent health and wisdom; in body, mind and spirit. If you decide to work with me you will be entering into a healing relationship with someone who is trained to hold and come alongside whatever is alive and going on for you with kindness, presence, insight and compassion.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
