My practice is informed by the most cutting edge neuroscience research from the trauma field which as redefined our understanding of the way we experience and process challenging events in our mind and body.
I am a highly skilled and effective psychotherapist and counsellor offering a meaningful and sensitive approach to the therapy process. I specialise in the area of trauma and it´s impact on your relationship with yourself and with others. It can be helpful to explore past experiences and how they may have impacted upon us but this doesn´t mean going over painful memories in a way that is retraumatising. Some people prefer not to remember what happened in the past, for others the story is very important. Our process follows what feels most helpful for you.

Helping Young People realise their full potential within an ever changing world. I have over 15 years experience in counselling young people in private practice, schools and colleges. I have successfully worked on anxiety prevention and lifting low mood. I have experience working with suicide ideation, family dynamics, dyspraxia, autism, self harming behaviours, sexuality and gender, exam pressure, bullying, OCD and many more. I consider that, at times, young people need additional emotional support outside of their family and friends network in order that they can achieve their full potential.

I don't believe that there is one method of psychotherapy that suits everyone. I believe in adapting my way of working for each client I meet. You may feel that you want to work short-term on a specific aspect of your life. You may feel that you want to take time to look back on your early life experiences or you may not know where to start or where you are going. Whatever your situation is, I will do my best to see the world as you do and, where possible, offer you an alternative perspective. I believe the same is true for children and using sand tray and art materials I allow children to process their emotions through play.

I am a Psychotherapist with a background in Psychology. If you are reading this it is possible that you are experiencing unwanted emotions such as anxiety, sadness, fear, anger, emptiness, shame, guilt (to name but a few), which almost certainly is leading to unwanted behaviours such as withdrawal, poor communication and harsh self-criticism that makes your self-esteem decrease. These are maybe affecting your relationships with family members, with friends, with work colleagues and even affecting your romantic relationships. If this is what is happening to you and you want to change this, you are in the right place.

Hello, how are you really feeling? Are you able to voice your needs? Are you constantly too critical of yourself? Are you finding it hard to say no to people? Are you overwhelmed and running on empty? Can you measure your stress and anxiety level? How is your love relationship? Do you have social anxiety? Are you feeling sad and don't know why? So many questions and issues that we all feel at times with a different level of intensity. Don’t wait and let it build up to overwhelming levels. I believe that I can help you reflect on those issues if they resonate with you and help you live a happier, more authentic and healthier life.

I offer a compassionate and confidential environment, where you can feel safe to explore any issues in your life, in an accepting and non-judgmental way. Over more than a decade, I have worked with a wide variety of clients, supporting them through difficult times by helping them to express and understand their thoughts and feelings, transform the relationship with themselves and others, and live their life more confidently. I integrate psychoanalytic and Jungian approaches in open and creative ways, for example working with external relationships and influences from the past that shape our "internal world".

I'm an accredited integrative counsellor, trained to listen and support you as we look at what is keeping you where you are and look at what you’d like to change. I have helped clients with issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, grief, loss, trauma and also helped clients who have wanted someone to hear what they are currently living through – for example, relationship difficulties or not feeling like themselves any more. Maybe you're feeling more anxious than usual, maybe life is not feeling as you'd like. Once you have an awareness of what's happening for you, we can explore your choices for changing things.

Sometimes life can be challenging and we don’t know where to turn. Maybe you and your loved ones are fighting a lot or perhaps not communicating at all? Do you always think the worst about a situation or yourself? Are you comfortable in your own skin? You may want to become more confident or assertive in expressing yourself, saying what you really think without fear. Maybe past events or traumas are preventing you from moving forward and living the happy life that you want. No matter what your situation is, counselling can help create a safe space for you to feel free and help you through even the most difficult of times.

Self-Harming Counsellors

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behaviour therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
