I have 18 years of experience in the therapeutic field working with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, loss and low self esteem.
Therapy is for anyone going through difficult times, whether this is due to problems in relationships, stresses at work, death of someone close to you, or struggles with health or perhaps having feelings of sadness and anxiety and not really knowing why this might be.

I am an integrative counsellor and draw on a wide range of counselling approaches to achieve results.
Each and every one of us will at some point in our lives face difficulties and challenges that we find hard to deal with – be that experiencing periods of feeling ‘stuck’, anxious, depressed, low or angry; experiencing conflicts in our relationships with others, suffering a loss; or being impacted by past events which still affect how we cope with life today.

Burnout can take many shapes - I know the slow drift towards every workday being grey, the shock of realising in counselling that things didn't have to be this way, and the technicolor vibrancy of finding new purpose and meaning in my own life.
If work makes you feel permanently exhausted, if it all seems pointless, and maybe you can't get stuff done the way you used to, you may be on the path to burnout. Other signs include blaming everyone else, deprioritising friends and family, and the use of unhelpful coping mechanisms such as drink or drugs. Burnout can take you from persistent stress to anxiety and, if not interrupted, depression. Does any of this feel familiar?

Thinking about past hurts can be painful, so we work together in a calm, non-judgmental, and authentic space where you’ll feel truly seen and understood.
I help you heal from childhood wounds that continue to impact your adult life —whether through feelings of low self-confidence & self worth, anxiety or depression, we work together to break these cycles at your pace, one step at a time. These patterns can feel impossible to break, and talking about them may seem daunting. But finding the right person to listen can make all the difference. I'm Jannelle, and I've walked the path of feeling lost and confused, just like you. Together, we can untangle those confusing thoughts and feelings, and heal the wounds of your past that may be affecting your present.

My relationship work has the same principles in mind, but is particularly useful in exploring how people relate to each other and how what each has brought with them into the relationship, impacts upon it.
Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of our lives; we may not like or understand how we behave or react, but feel unable to change. Sometimes a part of us may feel overwhelmed by life events, feel anxious or depressed, or struggle with difficult relationships Deciding to meet with a therapist can be an important step in helping you to make changes and move forward in life. A therapist will provide a reflective space, where you can speak your mind and explore your difficulties.

Instead of getting caught up in a call and response pattern where certain triggers tilt you over time and time again into worry, fear, anxiety, rumination, sleeplessness, over-eating or under-eating, over-caution or over-impulsiveness, counselling could help resolve past emotional issues still affecting you in the present, by addressing unresolved patterns.
I am an integrative counsellor with experience in both the private and NHS sectors, working with adults and young people. In my experience, many clients come for counselling for help with depression and anxiety caused by difficulties within relationships, friendships, work-based stress as well as isolation and loneliness. By gently encouraging and challenging them to face up to their fears and concerns, they achieve greater insight and self-knowledge and gain a larger perspective on their situation. Through this they come to realise that there are other options and choices available to them through which they may improve well-being

Seeking therapy is a courageous step toward reclaiming your life and reaching your full potential.
Life’s journey can sometimes take us down daunting and confusing paths. Anxiety/anger, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, and other psychological problems can make it hard for us to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Relationship problems can cause us to lose touch with ourselves. Struggles in our careers can lead to dissatisfaction and a lack of fulfilment. Identity issues can cause us to become socially isolated, engage in risky behaviours, or have trouble expressing ourselves. These and other painful experiences prevent us from fully living. But adversity can be a powerful catalyst for transformation and growth.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
