I offer both short & long term therapy - as well as offering general support, I specialise in oncology, palliative care & bereavement .
I work relationally with the clients I see, aiming to build a shared understanding of their difficulties. Using integrative techniques (including evidence based psychodynamic, existential, humanistic & cognitive behavioural modalities) I focus on encouraging individuals/couples to identify their existing challenges, build an understanding of themselves & their situation, & reflect on why they may feel the way they do. Through this process it is possible to build long term resilience & a more robust sense of self, having identified patterns of relating to others. This includes developing skills & techniques for coping in the future.

Are you getting the message from others that you “should be over your bereavement by now”? Do you feel guilty at not having been or done “enough” for your deceased loved one? Do you have more difficult/complicated feelings towards your deceased loved one that wouldn’t be acceptable to share with your family and friends? If you can relate to any of these questions I would be happy to hear from you. Having completed a Bereavement Support Course with Cruse Bereavement Support I have worked with many bereaved people offering an understanding, non-judgemental approach.

Perhaps you are looking for some help with issues of anxiety or depression, which are affecting your day to day life. You might be feeling a bit hopeless, tired and are looking for change. Do you ask yourself: 'is this all there is?' Are you feeling a sense of loss of who you used to be or would like to be and are curious to see if therapy could help? Loss can be central to many of our issues. Loss of identity or from an actual bereavement or loss of purpose in life. Is there a voice inside stopping you from living a fulfilling life and you want to talk to someone, without feeling judged, to help you make sense of your life.

Whether due to recent events or past ones, many people struggle with grief , loss , food and body, and traumatic experiences, leaving them feeling stuck, overwhelmed and needing support. My professional expertise is in working with clients struggling with trauma and PTSD; struggling with eating disorders, body image and identity; child and adult bereavement ; clients undergoing cancer treatment; end of life care; and carers. This breadth of experience has informed my understanding of the universality of inner conflict and distress, and how the tools of self-exploration and insight are essential to effect change in the here-and-now.

Hi there. I'm a qualified BACP registered counsellor working with people who are finding something in their life difficult to cope with whether that be feelings of anxiety, depression, the loss of a loved one or something else. Perhaps a relationship has come to an end, or you have started feeling very anxious or/and depressed. You might be finding it hard to enjoy your life and feel confused that you feel this way. You might have lost someone you cared about and feel like it's hard to cope, that there is little to look forward to and that it's unclear what is going on and tough to make sense of things.

Bereavement Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
