It's entirely reasonable for us all, at some point, to be anxious and confused by life, challenged by relationships, family life and or the direction of our career. Life can be difficult, there's no denying that, you just don't have to suffer in silence. Really, the only qualification in seeking therapy is to be a normal human being. I could go on 'selling' the benefits, but ultimately I assure you, if you try, things will change, and quite possibly for the better.

You have now taken the first step to living a 'whole' life. Whatever your reasons for seeking support, nothing is too big or too small to explore. Our sessions may be about a specific issue or transition you may be going through such as relationship or work challenges, a bereavement or loss or about exploring feeling 'stuck' and a lack of motivation or energy to move forward in life. Alternatively, you may want to take the time to explore a little deeper, particularly around initial attachments and past experiences or events and how these may be impacting you in this present time. The greatest agent of change is self awareness.

Are you struggling with painful sex, erectile dysfunction, low desire, or the impact of sexual trauma? Perhaps you're feeling stuck in relationship patterns – unable to connect as deeply as you'd like, or caught in recurring conflict.
These issues can feel isolating – but they’re more common than you think, and you don’t have to face them alone. Therapy offers a safe, compassionate space to explore what’s going on, understand where these difficulties come from, and begin to move toward meaningful change.

My work is often guided by an attachment-based approach.
For me, the collaborative relationship between us is at the heart of the therapy. We work together, yet you are the expert on you. You decide what we discuss. We go at your pace.
We may explore your early attachments and patterns in your life story. We may look at how these impact your relationships and how you communicate (or not) with those you love.

I work with adults and young people (16+) whose sense of self, emotional balance, or relationships have been shaped by difficult or traumatic relational experiences. This may include the effects of emotionally harmful relationships, including those involving narcissistic patterns. Many clients come seeking understanding, stability, and a way to move forward. Often, confusion about what happened, unhelpful beliefs, and unprocessed memories stand in the way of clarity, peace, and self-compassion. I support clients in understanding these obstacles so that greater clarity and lightness can emerge.

Attachment-based Counsellors
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
