My specialist interests are in trauma, abuse, relationships and sexuality.

I am empathic to the unique ways we suffer as individuals and, from experience, understand how this can serve new growth and wellbeing.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in repetitive patterns - persistent stress or anxiety that does not respond to self-help strategies, recurring relationship difficulties, feelings of emptiness or lack of meaning, or a deep sense of not being ‘enough’. I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences of life. My aim is to help you to start a journey of self-discovery and personal transformation that feels meaningful and sustainable.

For over 15 years, I have worked with people facing difficult moments in life - trauma, addictions, work-related difficulties, relational difficulties, academic performance, depression, anxiety, and others, as well as with people facing more complex "mental health" difficulties.
We all face moments in life where things seem too hard and unclear. The therapeutic situation offers the time and space to get the support needed to think through the difficulties and explore new perspectives. I offer my availability and the thinking of a second mind, besides the client's mind, in a safe place where the difficult subjects can be unfolded.

Maybe past events or traumas are preventing you from moving forward and living the happy life that you want.
I work with clients to help them understand themselves more and the part they and others play in their life. Together we can explore the present and the past to uncover the root cause of negative thought patterns, feelings and actions, identifying more helpful strategies to overcome these challenges. My approach is one of understanding and genuine compassion

EMDR can be highly effective for addressing traumas, anxiety and negative thinking patterns.
Changing as a person, adjusting or becoming more accepting of problems can be a daunting process. So, in therapy we will develop a shared understanding of your needs, emotions and what contributes to your problems. I will motivate you to take steps in the direction that matters to you by applying CBT strategies. EMDR can also unstuck you from traumas.

I have extensive experience working with trauma and dissociation, offering a focussed and compassionate approach towards processing it to reduce its impact.
Hi! I’m Shuchi, a qualified counsellor who works online, primarily with adults and teenagers. I am not your typical "nod and smile" counsellor - in my work with my clients, I empathise, support and also challenge you unequivocally. I aim to engage fully with you in our sessions, consciously choosing to limit the number of clients I see every week so as to be fully present with you. Sessions with me are honest,  emotional, deep and sometimes even a tad humorous since I truly believe that humour, when used correctly, can be extremely therapeutic. I always work to provide you with an absolutely safe, non-judgemental space.

My background in the arts brings creativity and depth to my relational, trauma-informed work.
Life is precious. You want to seize it, shape it, squeeze the joy out of it. You want to feel grounded, safe, and free—to live a life and have relationships, work, and creative pursuits where your heart expands and your soul feels light. But something keeps getting in the way. You’re functioning, maybe even thriving on the outside, but inside you feel stuck. Self-doubt, shame, anxiety, and overwhelm creep in. You procrastinate, overthink, snap, or rush through life in an ungrounded way. You long for a breakthrough so you can finally step into your power and experience clarity, calm, connection, and momentum.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
