Based on my work in the NHS, I use mindfulness for the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Many reasons can bring us to therapy whether they are temporary difficulties, long-term struggles or the desire for personal development. I offer a warm, non-judgmental and confidential space in which you can talk openly about any aspects of your life in a way which might not be possible with friends or family. I am here to listen and to work with you so that you can start to make sense of your feelings and create positive change in your life.

I currently work in a private psychiatric hospital in London, while I have 3 years of experiences in public psychiatric services in the NHS and Hospital Authority (HK). Building rapport with clients and empathetic understanding are my strengths, as I believe effective therapy begins with therapeutic relationships and collaborative formulation of problems.

Together we will agree on a care plan that might include: CBT, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness (MBCT) Systemic Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), Dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Making sense of how your difficulties came to be, we will develop the necessary strategies for you to move forward. The aim is for you to end therapy with the necessary knowledge and skills of how to live a more balanced and self-fulfilling life, which should last a lifetime.

Being educated to MSc in Education, MSc in Psychotherapy, and MSc in Human Development, and certified in Couple Counselling, I am well-positioned to integrate different modalities such as DBT, IFS, EMDR, therapeutic mindfulness, object relations, and CBT.
Hello! I offer integrative psychotherapy, typically spanning 8 to 16 sessions or ongoing (weekly or fortnightly), focusing on stress management, neurodiversity, trauma, and relationships. Selecting the right therapy can be daunting, as choosing incorrectly may waste time, money, and healing opportunities. Regardless of the modality, ensure your therapist demonstrates how to balance emotions, thoughts, and manage physical sensations associated with heavy feelings. An effective approach often involves integrating various therapeutic modalities to address your diverse needs comprehensively.

The practice uses an eclectic approach by incorporating traditional psychotherapeutic modalities— person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and Gestalt - with mindfulness-based practices.
Hi, I’m Patricia. I know life can be quite challenging. It often leaves us in need of support to reconnect with our true selves and realise our full potential. Challenges can manifest as worry, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, fear, relationship issues, and even lead to addictions or post-traumatic stress. To heal and move forward, you need love, patience, safety, and the time to protect and nurture yourself as you grow stronger and more authentic. I founded Luz Counselling to guide people from this place of pain and fear back to their true selves.

As a counsellor my work uses an integration of therapeutic approaches such as Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Existential, Cognitive Behavioural and Mindfulness.
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor. I have experience working with clients on a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief, loss & self-esteem. My integrative training emphasises the importance of the relationship between client & counsellor. The client is given the opportunity to lead the way, I will actively listen and respond to what the client brings, aiming to provide an environment which feels safe, empathic and open-minded. I will however, at times, be challenging in a constructive way, allowing for potential therapeutic change, discovery & shifting within the client.

I’m inspired by the intersection of evidence-based therapies and holistic approaches that incorporate spirituality, mindfulness, and somatic practices.
My approach is rooted in compassion, authenticity, and a deep understanding that healing is as much about reconnecting with yourself as it is about addressing the wounds you’ve endured. Where relevant I can help you to understand the source of your core pain, which acknowledges and honours the struggles you have already endured while identifying the strengths you have developed to adapt and survive. Where some of these adaptations have become unhelpful, I work with you to discover healthy coping mechanisms and tools moving forward.

I have studied, practiced and taught meditation techniques and mindfulness for a number of years and at times integrate these into the therapeutic process.
Choosing a counsellor is a big step which can feel daunting. How do you find the therapist who will be right for you? If you are new to counselling, the various theoretical approaches listed by therapists can be confusing. Current research shows that more important than the theory is the therapeutic relationship (the relationship between you and me) and this is the cornerstone of my work. My theoretical approach is Integrative, drawing on the Psycho-dynamic, Humanistic and Existential schools within a relational working model which emphasizes the Humanistic philosophy and embraces Person Centered core process.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
