Perhaps you are hoping to find and develop relationships that are more meaningful or are struggling with a
relationship
you were or indeed are in. You may be experiencing feelings of anxiety or dissatisfaction with life. There may be problems at work that require an impartial caring ear or you may be feel there are questions about sexuality that you would like to consider. It could be that you want to look at your general mood or maybe there is simply the need to unpick your thoughts. In any instance, people often find that simply talking to another person about how they are feeling is helpful.

I have many years experience working with a wide range of psychological, emotional and mental health problems and specialise in working with depression, anxiety, trauma and
couples
.
My interest in Psychotherapy began many years ago when I embarked on a philosophical journey of self-discovery to gain a better understanding of myself and life. My interests developed into the works of existential thinkers Friedrich Nietzsche and Jean Paul Sartre. The Existential approach is a philosophical method of therapy that operates on the belief that inner conflict within a person is due to that individual's confrontation with the givens of existence. At the time, I had a great need to understand my own existence and how my values gave meaning to my life

My
relationship
work has the same principles in mind, but is particularly useful in exploring how people relate to each other and how what each has brought with them into the
relationship
, impacts upon it.
Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of our lives; we may not like or understand how we behave or react, but feel unable to change. Sometimes a part of us may feel overwhelmed by life events, feel anxious or depressed, or struggle with difficult relationships Deciding to meet with a therapist can be an important step in helping you to make changes and move forward in life. A therapist will provide a reflective space, where you can speak your mind and explore your difficulties.

My aim is to offer a safe, secure
relationship
in which we explore these difficulties together.
I am an Attachment Psychotherapist which means that I help you explore your past and present experiences that may have affected you in some way. Sometimes our experiences can leave us feeling insecure or lacking in confidence, making it difficult to form or sustain healthy relationships or cope with everyday life. Talking this through with a psychotherapist can help you to understand and value yourself more. It is not the job of a psychotherapist to tell you what to do but to offer you different perspectives and a different experience of relating.

Sometimes aspects of our life can overwhelm us. Life events such as a bereavement,
relationship
/family issues, a job loss or isolation can leave us feeling fearful, stressed and unable to cope. We can also feel stuck in certain patterns that we wish to break free from. Talking about all these things can help to bring balance back into our lives and gain a new understanding of ourselves. I aim to make it possible for you to speak about things which you might not have put into words before and ask questions to help you with your thinking. Giving yourself the space to talk openly and be heard can bring about tremendous change within.

Searching online for a therapist can be a daunting prospect. If you have made it this far you have taken a huge step, in acknowledging to yourself that you may need support. I can help you now in taking the next steps towards feeling ‘un-stuck’ and able to move forward with your life. You might be here because something is bothering you or you have experienced a major life event. Maybe a
relationship
in your life has ended or changed. There are also times when life seems to be going well, but you are still feeling low, depressed or not yourself.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
