I have a special interest in grief and bereavement.
I can provide a non judgemental, supportive and confidential space where you can start to unpick and explore your challenges. I trained in an integrative approach, which means we can explore your experience of your life in the present, and consider how your past influences your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I am a specialist in loss and bereavement.

My main approach is Existential Psychotherapy, which I use to help support clients through experiences such as bereavement, long-term illness, career change, traumatic relationships and questioning their sense of identity.
No-one knows your world as well as you do. However, sometimes, that world can be difficult to understand. Perhaps your world changed recently and you’re struggling to make sense of things now. Maybe you feel low or anxious and aren’t sure why. Talking things through with someone can help.

I explore issues around low mood, feeling stuck, dealing with difficult emotions, family and relationship problems, gender or sexual identity and loss/change.
Are you relentlessly having thoughts like:
"Why does it have to be this way? Why me? If only this had not happened... I wish things were different!"
But you never get an answer or resolution leaving you emotionally drained and stuck on a loop? Thoughts starting with why, if only or I wish all share one common thread - I cannot accept this part of my life.
If your goal is to 'move on' in life, or to find acceptance and peace with the past or current events or you're stuck on the 'how-to' do it, you've come to the right place.

I can help with a number of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, loss, relationship issues, self-esteem, trauma recovery, suicidal ideation, narcissistic personality disorder, eating disorders and addiction.
Beginning therapy and finding a therapist can be a daunting process, although just taking the first step of reaching out to one is the most courageous step. I offer a confidential safe space - either in person on online - to talk about your concerns or anything which is currently troubling you at the same time and day each week. The regularity of sessions and the relationship between client and therapist which develops is part of the journey of healing that therapy can provide. I am a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist with experience of working with people to help them heal and feel better about themselves.

I work with clients who are navigating challenges such as loss, grief, or trauma related to their life, relationships or family dynamics
Effective communication can serve as a valuable opportunity for self-discovery, allowing clients to explore and comprehend the emotions associated with their life circumstances. While friends and family can provide support, their proximity to the situation may sometimes hinder open conversations. In such instances, consulting with an impartial third party can be more advantageous. Counseling can be a transformative and empowering experience. Personally, I have found that counselling can be a transformative and empowering experience. So however you got here, your voice deserves to be heard.

I help people going through the process of grief, endings and changes, whether that's losing a loved one or the ending of a relationship.
Often people tell themselves stories about who they are or about their life, with the subconscious intention of protecting theirself from trauma. These fear based stories can hold people back so if anything like this comes up during a session we will look at the story or fear rationally, putting you back in the driver's seat of your life.

Beyond prison settings, I’ve supported people from all walks of life through grief, anxiety, and complex life transitions.
If you’ve spent years holding it all in—staying strong, staying quiet, hiding your anger or pain—I see you. I’ve worked with people who’ve carried shame for too long: shame about what they’ve done, what they’ve been through, or who they had to become to survive.
As a Caribbean woman, I understand the weight of cultural silence, identity struggles, and how it feels to be marginalised or misunderstood in spaces that weren’t made for us. Therapy shouldn’t require you to code-switch, explain your background, or filter your truth. With me, you don’t have to shrink to fit the room.

I am currently volunteering as a bereavement counsellor at a Hospice.
Sometimes we believe we are the only ones who feel and think the way we do. We can feel isolated and alone, trapped in a vicious circle of negative thoughts, feelings and emotions. This can make us feel we are not in control of our life and not living to our full potential. As an experienced Integrative Counsellor, I draw on different theories depending on what you would like to achieve and your individual needs. My name is Sue and I am an empathic, compassionate non judgemental Counsellor with experience of working with people of all different ages, cultures, genders, sexual orientation.

I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues (trauma, abandonment, attachment, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, illness, major life transitions) and am particularly interested in working within and deriving meaning from the ‘thresholds’ we experience in life as a source of creative potential.
I am an accredited psychotherapist and qualified mindfulness teacher. I practice Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP), a mindfulness based, transpersonal approach to therapy that is firmly rooted in the belief that at the ‘core’ of each of us lies the potential to connect more deeply with our inherent health and wisdom; in body, mind and spirit. If you decide to work with me you will be entering into a healing relationship with someone who is trained to hold and come alongside whatever is alive and going on for you with kindness, presence, insight and compassion.

Bereavement Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
