Hello, my name is Austin and I work as an integrative therapist worldwide via internet platforms including Skype and Zoom. I’ve received lots of therapy over the years when I have been struggling to cope with difficult situations and also when seeking to understand myself a bit better, it really helped. If you are going through a similar stage in life and are looking for someone to talk to in complete confidence, without judgment and at a pace that suits you then I can help.

It's an in-demand and highly effective psychological method that helps problems stemming from trauma and difficult memories.
Emotional problems are very common. I struggled in early adulthood with severe anxiety and I experienced taking the hugely difficult step of finding a psychologist. I'm glad that I did, as I found effective help and recovered. The experience now gives me an invaluable window in to my client's feelings.

I also specialise in working with trauma.
I work with adults in both short-term therapy (minimum 12 sessions) and longer-term therapy, depending on your needs. My practice is neuro-affirming; I aim to validate your experience and not pathologise difference. I currently see clients in private practice and at 1 in 4, a clinic focused on trauma.

I specialise in helping individuals navigate early attachment issues, childhood difficulties, and trauma.
What's on your mind? Perhaps you have suffered a loss, or you are experiencing a low mood which seems to have appeared out of the blue. It might be that anxious feelings are overwhelming you, or that your relationships feel challenging or even destructive. Painful childhood experiences could be impacting your current life and your relationships in a way that feels unmanageable. Or perhaps none of the above - you just can't quite identify what you're feeling and would like to understand yourself better. Whatever your struggles I am happy to meet with you to discuss how I can help.

A highly recognised therapy for PTSD, Trauma and anxiety.
Life can change very quickly, either through loss or events happening around us. This can be confusing and frighting, traumatic even. causing anxiety and stress which can feel overwhelming. With our feelings being invisible to others, life events can leave us feeling lonely our emotions impossible to over come, holding us back in life. I believe counselling can offer a way forward, relieving some of the burden of these feelings. helping to calm and quieten your internal world. Giving you back control of your life.

Do you feel trapped in a permanent cycle of surviving each day? You have been feeling tense and overwhelmed for no apparent reason, although everything ‘seems fine’ on the surface and people often tell you that you were lucky in life. It might be that you don’t quite know where your emotional and physical reactions are coming from as if your body and mind have a life of their own. It might seem you have it together all the time but it takes so much energy to keep things going. This never-ending sense of internal pressure feels exhausting but you are not quite sure how to get out of the cycle.

I focus on gender, disability, racial, and intergenerational trauma and am committed to anti-discriminatory, LGBTQIA+ affirming practices.
Therapy is a space where suppressed parts can be seen. Together, we explore new paths instead of seeking a fix. It reveals our bodies' healing power, helping us see ourselves more authentically. I am a person who makes mistakes. Stumbling along, I've learned that therapy's value lies not in perfection but in being genuine as we create new forms of trust.

I was helped tremendously by my own experience of therapy, and have been influenced by a variety of approaches to it. I know a thing or two about depression, not caring much for oneself and struggling to understand one’s feelings; I come at it as one who has seen for himself that a better life and a better relationship with the self is both possible and worthwhile. If you would like to know more about me, how I understand therapy and how I work, you might want to visit my website, where I write about all at some depth.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
