In my experience, I have facilitated and supported a range of clients from various backgrounds, age groups and religions, who were experiencing difficulties in depression, anxiety, relationships, bereavement,
family
conflicts and a loss of life purpose.
I believe that trust is the foundation of any good relationship; and in this space, I will enable you to embark on your own personal journey of self-discovery, where you can explore and process your thoughts, memories and emotions, without you feeling the need to hide how you really feel. We will work collaboratively, to uncover and explore your apprehensions, enabling you to reach your goals, find clarity, new conclusions and a peace of mind.

I have a Post-grad Diploma in
Family Therapy
from the Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital.
I offer a service to children, adolescents, and young adults to allow them to begin to understand and explore how their past experiences have impacted on their lives, to be able to regulate their emotions and behaviours in order to cope with life’s challenges. Often the problems experienced are related to or are the result of past traumas or even just finding it hard to cope with life generally with all its pressures and difficulties. I can also see families and parents who can sometimes struggle to understand the problems facing them as a
family
unit. I am offering a safe and non-judgemental space, where we can begin to understand

Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship, or sexuality issues? Do you feel stuck and lacking support? Do you feel overwhelmed by difficult situations or struggling with low self-esteem? Are you going through a life transition and finding it difficult to cope? Many of us may face hardships in life at some point and such times can be stressful, frightening, and lonely. Seeking help or support is not always easy. Talking to friends and
family
may be difficult, if not impossible as we may experience rejection, shame, guilt when we are most vulnerable.

I've worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, trauma, abuse, problems at school, college or university,
family
and relationship difficulties, and issues around gender, sexuality and identity.
Sometimes people come to counselling or therapy with a particular symptom, after a significant life event or with work-related difficulties. Other times it's more about not quite feeling fulfilled in life, career or relationships. I believe the many ways we come to understand and make sense of who we are, including how we relate to others and the world around us, are central to our mental health and physical wellbeing. Unforseen life events, separations, losses and disappointments can all profoundly affect our sense of who we are.

I have particular interest and experience in working with childhood trauma,
family
(including sibling) issues, disability and chronic health conditions.
You may be feeling stuck or overwhelmed by specific experiences or circumstances, or you may be unsure why you don’t feel happy. Perhaps this feeling that something is wrong is recent or you might have been struggling with it for a long time. Our environment, and the ways that we are seen by other people, can leave us feeling pressurised, dismissed or misunderstood. Together, we can work to explore and understand your experience, allowing you to process some of the painful feelings which have left you feeling distressed. Working sensitively at your pace, we can explore how you feel without judgment.

uk), I offer warm, compassionate, straight forward and reliable therapeutic support through individual therapy for parents, adolescents and young adults, couples therapy,
family therapy
and parent coaching drawing on a range of tried and tested evidence-based tools.
Hi, I'm Dr Hannah Ryan, a Clinical Psychologist. Are you a parent of a teenager who is struggling with mental health difficulties, anger, low mood, self-harm, school refusal, or challenging behaviour? Are you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected or burned out? If so, you are definitely not alone, and reliable help is available. Having worked with many parents in similar situations I can appreciate, but never fully understand, how incredibly challenging and all-consuming it can be to parent a young person with additional emotional or behavioural needs.

Difficulties in romantic and
family
relationships can cause anger, distress, resentment and deep unhappiness.
I work intergratively and collaboratively, that is to say I draw on different psychological therapies, including CBT, Narrative and Attachment ideas and techniques, depending on the challenges and stories brought into the therapy room by the client(s). I work within an overarching Systemic framework which pays special attention to supporting individuals, couples and families to find the strengths of their relationships so as to make disturbing symptoms less problematic. It is not just about problems however, Systemic therapy is built on a bedrock of hope, focusing on resilience and resourcefulness.

Many children have difficulties in their lives such as
family
break up, challenging behaviour, bullying, life upheaval, loss and bereavement, fostering and adoption.
I am a child-centred play therapist working with children, primarily from 4-12 years of age. I provide a safe, empathetic and accepting space for your child to explore what is troubling them. My approach is play based and primarily non-directive. However, for some children a slightly more directive approach can be helpful. Each child is unique, therefore the sessions will be tailored to your child and meeting their individual needs. A play based approach can be useful for children who may find it difficult to express how they feel into words.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
