I work with people who have had problems in their relationships, suffered with depression and anxiety, difficulty in managing emotions or have suffered bereavements.
I am accredited with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work with people to help them understand their emotional and psychological distress. My work helps them to alleviate this distress. Though you don’t need to be in “distress” to attend therapy, people also come to increase their self awareness and gain a different perspective.

We're going to find you a way through depression, anxiety disorders & stress.
I am an integrative transpersonal counsellor. The unique element of this counselling is that we will encompass mind, body and spirit in our work together, in a holistic way. It’s a talking therapy but we can also use experiential exercises, visualisation and guided meditation. I sometimes use art and other creative techniques within therapy, which can help us access the parts of ourselves that talking alone may not reach. Most importantly, I offer you a safe, warm, empathetic & non-judgmental space in which to talk, to be heard and to be helped. Before training as a therapist, I worked in the City as a banker and lawyer.

For highly effective therapy for Trauma, Addiction, Depression / Anxiety and Relationship issues - then you'll benefit from someone trained in many approaches including EMDR.
Hello and Welcome, Life can indeed be difficult at times. Many are struggling with mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings can rise to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a Master Degree and EMDR qualified, I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

I am experienced in working with clients with a range of needs, including those navigating anxiety, depression & grief; self-esteem & attachment issues; neurodiversity; identity & relationship difficulties; as well as trauma & PTSD.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy provides the opportunity to not only express yourself and be heard, but to reflect and transform. It can help process trauma, mental health difficulties or life challenges; access and navigate your unconscious attachments, behaviours and motivations; and shed light on patterns which may no longer serve you.

This gave me insight into those dealing with addiction, anxiety and depression.
As a registered BACP counsellor, I offer a person-centred approach that integrates psychodynamic theories. This is because I have learned that strong relationships are what creates lasting change. I also integrate CBT exercises as an extra aid for you. I know from my own experience that change is simple but not easy if you do not put it into practice.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
