We all go through times of crisis, when we may feel anxious, or overwhelmed.
I offer you a space in which to listen and to validate your experiences. My aim is to help you build confidence to tap into your innate capacity to heal from within. I am on a training (final year) in Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to help resolve trauma and restore well-being, self-acceptance and greater intimacy with others.

In your sessions you will be encouraged to talk freely about whatever is on your mind and to explore more deeply into your problems and worries, feelings you have about yourself, other people and those close to you.
Hello. It can be daunting to take the first step to find the right kind of help. Some people seek help for specific reasons, or diagnoses. However, many people also come because they feel stuck, struggle with strong emotions that threaten to overwhelm, have a past loss or bereavement, low self- esteem, lack confidence or sense of self or have a loss of meaning in their lives, dissatisfaction in work or an inability to form satisfactory relationships. All of which make it hard to function at your best or feel that life is fulfilling. You don’t always need a diagnosed condition to access therapy.

You may feel anxious, self critical, constantly switched on, emotionally exhausted or disconnected from yourself.
I work in an embodied, trauma-informed and relational way. We slow down and meet what arises in the moment with care. Together, we can make space for what has been pushed aside, not allowed, or felt too much to process alone. Where appropriate, this might include parts work, movement, sound, breath, images, and somatic practices such as grounding.

You may be struggling with anxiety, panic, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, loneliness, or a persistent sense that something in life is not working despite appearing functional on the surface.
With over a decade in NHS and private practice, I work with individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, shame, and complex family histories. We focus on understanding repeating emotional and relational patterns, where they come from, and how they can begin to shift within a steady, supportive therapeutic relationship.

Clients come to therapy with me for many and varied reasons: sometimes for support to address a specific mental health problem, such as anxiety or low mood; sometimes because of a dilemma or difficult experience: the end of a relationship, a bereavement, becoming a parent, struggling at work; sometimes for support with relationship or attachment issues.
I have a particular interest in working with anxiety (including OCD, social anxiety and GAD), creatives and performers navigating the pressures of their industry, women in the perinatal period esp. early motherhood, and those struggling with body image and disordered eating. I have experience of supporting clients through late diagnosis of ADHD and ASC.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
