The choice to start psychotherapy may come for a variety of reasons. Becoming aware of repeating patterns of behaviour, struggling in personal and professional relationships, coming to terms with a particular traumatic event, or with feelings of depression, lack of purpose and meaning. Ultimately, there will be a unique reason for each person. Whilst my work takes into account the influence of the past onto the present, it also places as much attention to the future and to the fact that in the present psychological suffering there may be the potential for a meaningful new direction.

Perhaps you’re experiencing difficulties in past relationships. Maybe you lack confidence in social situations or generally finding it hard to cope with low self-esteem. Perhaps you are experiencing work-related stress or generalised anxiety, depression or panic attacks. It might be that you simply found yourself stuck in life and can’t find the way forward. Sometimes stressful life events can be so emotionally overwhelming, that we no longer wish to cope alone. I understand how overwhelming life can be at times.

Whether it's about breaking negative patterns, processing trauma, mourning, or a problem with attraction to unfulfilling relationships, the gently routined, contained process of unpacking our luggage in therapy and exploring our inner worlds can be a healing and creatively enriching process. The specific reasons why we seek therapy are as unique as we are, but the underlying drivers are shared by all of us. All of us were born to someone, and we all try to find our way in life to differing degrees of difficulty. In this sense, we find ourselves in distress because we are human and suffer from the human condition.

Hello, I’m Nia! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
Life often asks us to carry more than we realise. Past experiences, cultural and family expectations, or inner struggles can leave us feeling heavy, uncertain, or disconnected from ourselves. Just as the body needs care to heal, so too does the mind and heart. Therapy offers a space to pause, reflect, and gently reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been forgotten along the way. For me, therapy is less about “fixing” and more about exploring, remembering, and realigning at your own pace, in your own way.

I love my work and am blessed to be able to work with clients at a crossroads in their lives and help them break through current difficulties by understanding how ingredients in their past are obstructing their progress and their decision making. We work together to unlock unhelpful beliefs and find freedom from dynamics that are holding them back, at home and in the workplace, in relationships with partners, family members and friends. No problem is ever too small and it is often the ones you feel embarrassed to bring that are key to unlocking the problem.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.
How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.
Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.
How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
